First Impressions

I've been following this game for a while now and, as I noticed the beta is about done, I decided to take the plunge the other day.

I've played a couple of skirmishes against the AI and I can honestly say that I like what I've seen so far. I enjoy the pace of the game and the emphasis on strategic planning on a large scale and map control. Although I have seen some complaints about lack of units and little difference between races, I find that to be a strength more than a weakness; it allows the game to be more balanced and focused on the strategic elements of the game.

My only complaint thus far is a minor one. I find that, when I move large groups of units, my medics always want to move out in front of everyone and, thus, get killed unless I micro them. I also noticed that medics can't heal each other, which doesn't make much sense to me.

Other than those minor points, I can say I'm very happy with my purchase thus far and look forward to really diving more into this one!

Very nice work.

If you put your units into an "Army" then they will all travel at the same speed.

Medics not being able to heal each other is a new update as when you had two medics healing each other they became very hard to kill. I think they could have reduced the healing between medics by 50% or something instead but I can live with it as it is.

Ah, good to know.

Thank you for the clarification.

No problem. Just to clarify when I say Army I don't mean a Ctrl group. When you have units selected hit "V" to form an army and "B" to disperse one. There are two green buttons on the UI to do this also. Some of the Dreadnought upgrades effect/improve the Army they are part of. Probably worth playing the tutorial if you haven't, I assume it will cover armies.

As you play you'll kind of learn how an Army behaves, sometimes they are very useful and other times you'll do better not to have the units in an Army.

I think you have to use the B or break army command when separating engineers who have been working together. That is a relatively new mechanic though so I'm not 100% sure on that.
