Ranked Game Speed

I purchased ashes this weekend after being a long time fan of everything total annihilation, especially the first supreme commander (forged alliance). I started by playing a few games against the ai and couldn't help to notice how painfully slow everything was, unit movement, building and even lasers and missiles were moving in slow motion! I kept looking at the fps counter thinking it was lag but nope, 50-60fps. While playing the ai I noticed the game speed control and cranking it up it finally felt like a normal game. I guessed it was some kind of beginner help thing like in starcraft happily jumped into ranked only to find that ranked was set to a low speed as well.

I really like the core of the game but the game speed completely kills the experience. Supreme commander was a slow game but this in unplayable, any chance of this changing or should I give up on the game and move on?

That seems odd, the average 1v1 game time should last 20 minutes with the bulk of the fighting taking place between the 8-16 minute mark depending on the map. I have no issues/troubles/concerns with game speed at all.

I'm not really thinking of the game length although of course it would be affected. Because the game speed is so slow all units seem sluggish in a very unnatural looking way which is less the case for the faster game speeds in my opinion with a few hours with the game.

Theres a speed option for skirmish.

But id like it to be an option at least for teamgames, so the devs can see which speed people play the most.

Tatsujib: No, the whole game kinda feels like it is running at a very low fps even if it isn't,

Andre_B:  You can do it for offline skirmish but not in multiplayer games even if you're playing with friends (correct me if I'm mistaken). I don't really understand why it would be like this as I can't be the online person who doesn't enjoy playing against the AI except for when learning the basics.

Adding an option to see what players actually prefer online would be good if people actually played custom games, all action is seen in ranked.

Yeah its what i intended to say, they should allow speed options in custom multiplayer games, so that they can figure out which speed people play on, so that ranked play starts to have this speed.

In fact i think they should have done it awhile ago.

I don't know about ranked, initially anyway, but I liked the idea of being able to select it in custom games. Out of habit I just play it at Normal and am OK with that but if some friends like it faster that is OK too.

Well ranked has to be played at a single speed, otherwise it looses its significance as a rating tool.

What i was talking is having a speed option when hosting non ranked multiplayer games. Could even add in starting resources and what not.

Yeah.  Plenty of people just want to do a comp stomp so allowing them, or other types of custom games to adjust speed seems fine. Perhaps it has not been brought in yet because of a) implementing it in the start screen interface, but more importantly b) I assume it would require a bit more bandwidth because things will be happening that much faster/in a more concentrated fashion?
