Dead Worlds super common?

Not an angry thread. Just asking questions. Cuz I just bought galciv3 today and managed to beat the tutorial after 5 hours of learning on the map.

I checked 7+ star systems which resulted in discovery of 10+ dead worlds and one of the star systems was completely empty on a large map size. Then my now confused colonizer got shot down by pirates after searching for a long while for a planet to colonize. Was my start normal or abnormal?

You should be able to set the number of habitable worlds (and lots of other things) to your liking in the game setup menus when launching a new game (unless you go quickstart)

(Much) more dead than habitable worlds is normal in this game, depending on game settings as GalCivius stated.

To be shot down by pirates is quite unlucky though, that didn't happen to me that early in the game yet. But you can avoid that by moving one tile after the other since the sensor range of a colony ship is bigger than the movement ability of pirate ships.

Perfectly normal.

The dead worlds are there to give you something to explore through. After that, they serve no real purpose.

Ahh thank you then. How do one explore a dead world though? I cannot interact with them.

You can't. Dead worlds serve no purpose other than making habitable worlds more special.

There are events though that may turn some dead worlds into habitable ones.

Just like in real life (from what we know so far) habitable planets are quite special. Non-habitable are much more common. You can always change the settings :)

I didn't know the dead worlds included planets like mercury and jupiter. After noticing those two planets, I finally understood the intention behind the label. But I believe it's bit too hasty to label them as dead worlds because they can be used for science! Just look at all the science we got from Pluto in 2015 XD Ice volcanoes.

I would rather their be no class zero planets, but instead make them extreme planets, or something else.

Absolutely my opinion, I wrote a while ago in another thread that I would like the possibility to make class 0 planets habitable with a lot of work or to be able to explore them for treasures or something like that, so that they serve a real purpose instead of only being fluff.
