2 months 'til release, what needs work?

According to the most recent development schedule (https://forums.ashesofthesingularity.com/472632/) the game is going to be released in the next two months. We know it's going to be eventful:

- More Orbitals

- Strategic map overhaul

- Substrate + Beta

- Ascendency Wars (I think this is an ongoing metaverse campaign)

-----

Given the short schedule, we cannot expect them to be able to implement major changes prior to release. So, what are the critical improvements that we think should be done and can realistically be done in two months, aside from the things above?

Performance tuning and stability. This is a given, really, as every game goes through this process prior to going gold. I'm pretty happy already on my fairly modest hardware (i2500K, GTX 770, 8GB RAM), but there's always room for improvement.

Army behavior. AI-controlled armies are the second major selling point in this game, after scale thanks to advancements of the engine. There are various posts already showing off wonky army behavior that should be addressed. Currently there is too much of units shuffling around, hanging back in fights, going backwards to get into formation, not to mention going up cliffs. Furthermore we should have better controls for grouping and splitting armies.

- Unit and group responsiveness. There are a number of threads from new and old players alike commenting how it frequently takes multiple clicks or clicking in the right spot to get units to execute an order. I consider responsiveness a key factor for a release-quality game.

I have, of course, tons of other improvements I'd like to see, but I consider the above core to the game and necessary for a release-quality product. The rest can be addressed after release.

Tier 3 unit abilities are also slated for addition and I think are pretty key features. I expect they will be similar to Sins capital ship abilities where you can leave them on auto-cast or manually use them - maybe some will be passive as well. I think they are tied to levels on the unit as well (spend points on choosing abilities as you level up).

Once Substrate joins the fray, then balance between the factions should be looked at before release as well. With 2 factions, getting them balanced should be much easier. I'm hoping they play really different from PHC though.

Spectator mode, replays, and tutorial are also very important additions.

I'd like to see some more cosmetic passes on structures and orbital abilities at some point but don't think they are as critical before release.

This is BY FAR the most important thing for me. If I can't make my army do what I want, I don't want to play. When others read a review that says, "you can't control your army because the UI isn't responsive to clicks", they won't want to buy the game.

The game will not be released in 2 month, in the map timeline it say that the game will be beta 1 in  November 2015, we are still in Alpha build and not beta.

Beta 1 will be the Addition of the Substrate then we will be having at least 3 more Beta builds before release. as i see it the game will be released by May-June 2016

They have said elsewhere March is the tentative release time.

3 months then. Definitely not in the 6 to 8 month timeframe I've seen referenced elsewhere. That's why I think it's important to give them feedback to help them polish the game for release. We can keep asking for major changes, but we shouldn't expect them to be addressed until after March.

I think we have given a lot. At this point it feels like more of a wait for Beta and then we can see what they have incorporated or not and then start to get really picky with the finer points of the game :)

Edit: I should clarify that feedback is obviously great, it is just that it is hard not to get repetitive at this point. I hope Beta comes soon and we can get cracking on the balancing. And hoping that many of the control bugs are fixed so they don't come up again :cylon:

If you are a founder there are a few pictures and a video in that thread that Brad wanted feedback on that might interest you Eviator.

I just noticed my Founder Badge has gone? Dunno what has happened there.
