what ports need to be open for multiplayer to work?

I can't seem to find any matches, so I am guessing that there are some ports that need to be open in my firewall.  Does anyone know where this is documented?

thanks

I would say it is because there just aren't many people online, but twice now I have known for a fact someone has created a public lobby and I just can't see it (they could invite me through steam and that worked). I can see some sometimes though so I'm guessing it is not my firewall. Hopefully it is not a Steam region thing.

I played my first online match.  I did not have to make any firewall changes.  So I'm all good now.  Not sure what the fuss is about with the ports.

The game uses Steam's multiplayer. Please refer to Valve's instructions here if you need more help with firewall configuration.

It seems stardock is not getting the issue so please try and join my game I will post the UDP ports used on every try.

Or maybe it's not really an issue. UPnP is fine for nearly everybody on their home networks, and the security issues you reference were on poor configurations and implementations, not the protocol itself. Lastly your beef on this should be with Valve, not Stardock. Such a wierd thing to get fired up about.

still only one outgoing port but its still random from the first game as is the incoming to me.

I just realized the people you are playing against probably do not care about these posts. They are probably just connecting to you normally, and using UPnP. So there isnt really a purpose to your posts, but go ahead and keep posting them if it makes you feel better.

any see a pattern or range to these UDP ports? Its imposable to port forward them all unless I use DMZ and no one uses UPnP even the FBI National Infrastructure Protection Center says to disable it for extra protection.
https://www.grc.com/unpnp/unpnp.htm

Making a game where the ports are so random is reckless when there are ways of doing it simpler to achieve the same goal with UDP Traversal and make NAT types compatible along with making everybody happy to play a game.

A vulnerability from 2001 is not very convincing, but I suppose that is moot. If UDP Taversal is the future I guess Valve will come along eventually. Good luck!

Straight off the link you sent:

"Note: The FBI's NIPC (National Infrastructure Protection Center) has apparently reversed their original opinion. They no longer assert that Microsoft's Universal Plug & Play services should be disabled for extra protection. The most recent update to their previous two notices — which did advise users to disable the UPnP services — no longer includes this advice."

There is a lot of misinformation going on in this thread right now, and I don't really understand the agenda behind it. If UDP traversal is superior to UPnP, Valve will move to it, and then Ashes will support it. If you are on a crusade about it, start complaining to Valve, not Stardock. Nearly everyone is operating just fine with Steam's current method (or Steam would have died long ago), so it's going to be an uphill battle. Good luck.

You didn't get it did you eviator UDP traversal IS being done its being done in the game right now but its how the ports are for how UDP traversal works that is the problem.

and again Valve can't help at their end its the ports the game uses are end.

I guess I didn't get it. Now I do. Language barrier. Sorry for confusing the situation. Good luck.

Is this better?

No because they have not done anything the ports are random.
