AI adapts too slowly or not at all

I have played several games now and each of the games the AIs vastly outnumber me in military. Yet my fleets destroy theirs since I check what defence and offensive weapons they have and then fit my ships accordingly. However the AI seems to not adapt to that. They keep sending fleets with attack, which I have high defence against, and fail to fit defensive measures against my primary attack.

I think the AI should adapt better. If they are at war with me, or have bad relationships with me, they should scout out my fleet and fit according to my strength and weaknesses. Otherwise this type of combat is just another tool which we can use to best the AI.

Agreed.  I would think by turn 100+ the enemy ships would move faster than just 2 moves/turn, and have more weapons/defenses.

Well if you play on higher difficulty levels, they do get high defence and weapons. But usually only in one area and sometimes two. However they seem to fail to understand that they need to have high defence against whoever they are fighting against, they just seem to use whatever defence they have the highest tech in.

The Korath Clan in Dark Avatar would change weapons, and Defenses on its ships when at war, but they changed that in Twilight. I agree that adding if then else statements would fix that. Average player defense on average ships. Average players attack on average ships. If player defense>computer defense then prioritize cheapest upgrade defense technology. If player attack > computer attack prioritize cheapest attack research. If player is guns prioritize armor then either beams or missiles depending on which defense you have stronger already. If equal then favored species weapon. I agree.
