Industrial Planet's Role When NOT Building Ships

Hey folks, can a few of you share your strategy regarding your specialized industrial worlds? Specifically, what do you direct them to do when you don't need constructors, or ships at the moment? Obviously the science worlds go 100% research, and the econ worlds go 100% money.  What is the most effective use of an industrial world, when not producing? If I don't build a ship, (to avoid the 'Idle Colony" message,) and I put the slider to 100% manufacturing, I can choose one of the projects, but they show no benefit I can detect.

Thanks, in advance.

- Baby factories to feed your invasion fleets.

- Culture factories if you want/need influence. With enough invasion fleets you generally don't. :)

Of course, the most common use is to not switch the yard off but to produce an endless stream of constructors to match the endless need of starbase upgrades so that you develop a bad case of arthritis in your mouse wrist and you start screaming "will this nightmare never end!" and eventually go mad... :)

Thanks Petri, and great answer, lmao.

I sometimes have 2 research buildings on them, and switch them to research aswell, together with birthing subsidies project, to produce a tiny bit of population and research, then switch them to production mode if I need the ships again. And NO, I only produce ships when I need them, so my shipyards are often turned off.

Thank you JT. I like the idea. I've fallen into just continuously producing ships for no real reason.

I put them all to research, every one of them, until I have found every tech in the game.  By doing so in a timely fashion, I can still produce ships, invade neighbours, expand my empire, upgrade my starbases and eventually I reach the tipping point where all AIs are lagging behind me with their research.

Then I switch all to economy and upgrade my ships.

Redviper, do you build any labs on your specialized manufacturing worlds?

I do.   i usually put 1 lab for every 2-3 manufacturing building.   my manf worlds are the ones i control with the global wheel.

usually, yes, if I have room for them, 1 or 2 of them per planet, more for the research worlds.  Eventually, as my empire size increses, I will remove labs from manufacturing worlds (where I have bonus) and put more labs on research world (less industries there).

Then, once I have research all tech, I remove the labs and put something else in their place, like industry to planets attached to shipyards, economic buildings where needed, more farms&morals buildings when I can.

I build larger and larger construction ships endlessly. I have a design with 6 construction modules per ship and move 24. I still have never "finished" upgrading al my starbase. Never.

That is why I rarely built any starbases in my games. I have them around precursor relics, and when I really really need them, i.e. one at my homeworld or at a border to extend range. I also switch off Duranium/Promethium ressources completely, so I AI doesn't spam them either. In this way my production worlds are sometimes in a lull, and I can switch them to research for a while.
