Fog of War Bug STILL PRESENT

On occasion, when I load up a saved game the fog of war either disappears entirely or only partially, as is the case in my latest game. About 3/4's of the map has mysteriously been revealed, despite me not having scouted it. It's happened in other games in previous beta iterations and I've sent Scott save games of it then, but it's still happening.

This bug is rather devastating as it provides full view of the game map and effectively ruins the exploration phase. Please, please, I implore you, find out what's causing it before release.

I have another save game if needed...

Furthermore, I'm still seeing bugs that have been reported by myself and others. That's quite disappointing.

I really like the game, but seeing some persistent bugs is a bit disheartening.

Just saying.

Attack animations are still off some times. Mouse cursor issues persist. Sounds at random times. Map FOW. Tile yield icons disappearing.

These have been reported quite a few times and they're still in game.

FOW bug is #1 on our priority list...it's been a tough nut to crack, so any saved games you guys can send over would be great!

Several of those other bugs actually have fixes, but we've decided they're too risky to put in for 1.0  :(  that's the most frustrating part of getting close to the release version...only showstoppers get past the 'could cause more bugs than it solves' filter.

This is a sad state of affairs, as it will result in many bad reviews for a great game X( .   Have you guys ever thought of posting a "known bug list" ?   Open honesty and disclosure on the part of a supplier towards its customers is very powerful.     Players would know what issues exist when they buy the game and be much less prone to complain and slam you for it.

I'd like to see the mouse cursor thing addressed as I've repeatedly fixed it and then something makes it go back to showing the wait cursor at inopportune times.

As for edge case bugs causing negative reviews, in 20 years I've never seen that happen.  Even the FOW thing, which is being fixed, isn't that big of a deal.

Totally agree, thats what i primarily rely on but just curious,  who do you think john Q gamer on stream listens to more?

With all due respect.. OH COME ON.  Just look at all the neg reviews (i know.. 75% positive but that25% is sure vocal)  and posts on stream.   It looked to me like the majority were complaints about what you and I would consider  "edge case bugs"

Your QA dept must keep a list of open bugs/issues,  Why not post it in your support forum? .. just asking ;)

I agree with Frog that "edge cases" shouldn't affect game reviews (and in my case, they won't), but the FOW bug isn't that much of an edge case. I've seen it over a half-dozen times and for someone like me, the bug is a current-play-through killer. The exploration phase is so important -and so fun - that the elimination of it 1, 2, 3 and sometimes 4 or 5 hours in to a game makes me very tempted to give up that play through.

It has occurred in half my games and I have sent those saves in (and will send the latest one in, too). For a game that gets SO MUCH right, leaving some of these potential bugs in seems a disservice to the hard work of everyone and frankly, disappoints me.

Still love you guys, though.

Oh i agree they shouldn't but sadly they do and Frog did not say shouldn't, he said "in 20 years I've never seen that happen" :O

the problem when the game has so many bugs is that you don't know whether you are misinformed about how something works or whether it's just broken

the game is hard enough to learn even without all the flaws

^ All the flaws? ^

While I'll admit there are some persistent bugs that I found frustrating if only for their persistence through many reports, the only one that I truly feel takes away from the experiencd that I'VE encountered is the Fog of War bug. It's easily the most distracting to the game experience.

I really hope that you guys reconsider your self-imposed lockdown. Not fixing bugs because you're worried about introducing bugs sounds silly to me, with all due respect.

It SOUNDS silly, but I assure you it's a industry-wide practice. Game code is so interconnected that it's very common for one bug fix to cause multiple other issues to surface.

At this point, we'll go with random kill animations playing early (an annoying blip to a reviewer) than risk breaking a core part of the animation system that could result in a lower score  ;)

The FOW fix, on the other hand, would have to be VERY risky to not put in. Once we figure out whats going on there we'll let you guys know.

I can tell you this, it is MUCH MORE LIKELY to happen when I savescum. That's the only way I can consistently reproduce the FoW issue.

Scott and Brad,

I've reported this a number of times on this forum but because you guys seem to be reading this, I thought I'd ask here.

I have had repeatable CTDs (and an occasional shut-my-machine down event) that just makes the game unplayable for me (reported to tech support [#EUX-824-48658]).

My question is - I have a fairly new video card.  Does anyone there have an Nvidia GTX-970?  It's a popular card but I'm thinking to myself "maybe they just don't have one there to test ???".  It seems to be a bad graphics call (I get a "DX error" when it CTDs - and it happens when combat/spell effects are happening - or when a tool tip try to pop up).  There is nothing special about my system and I play a ton of games (with no problems like this).

Just curious (and concerned).

Mozo

Not 100% sure but i think in my last game it happened when i saved/reloaded to get a different hero (recruit hero sovereign skill)

And with less than 3 days 'till gold THE FOW BUG HAS BEEN FIXED!!!

Thanks to everyone who submitted reports. Most people were playing as Guardian, so it led QA to dive into her skill tree, and sure enough 'Nature's Vision' had some ninja-code that was raising all outposts Sight by +2 per turn. It wasn't, however, updating the FOW gfx, so you'd only see the effect when reloading.

Very glad to get that into the next build :)  Thanks again for all the help!
