Bug?

I surveyed a ship graveyard.  I received a ship.  I wanted to move this new ship, but it wouldn't let me.  It said I was out of range.  So if you receive a ship from a graveyard, and it is very far from your territory, it is stuck.  Eventually a fleet of pirates came over and killed it.

 

So is that a bug or expected behavior?

This is expected behavior as you need to select the "gifted ship" and then click on a tile in it's range (near one of your planets).

It then should move to that location.

If you click a tile within range of your planets it should move there but you may have to get creative to control it's path. This can happen if you are gifted a ship without much life support.

part of the problem is that ship range is very dim has been since they added the HDR lighting  or whatever its called

I had found it kinda gets stuck as well, though i was aware this was likely due to out of range. I do not see this issue all the time, but when i do, i click the ship in question, then send it to anywhere in my AOI to get it moving then redirect it straight away to the desired tile, in it's range of course.
