Robot Advisors…

Quick question regarding the robot research advisor:

Between work and some houseguests that are staying with me I haven’t really been able to put aside some time to watch the majority of the dev streams and I haven’t really been able to tinker around with the game because I am having some performance issues since the new patch making the game unplayable until I get some more memory.

Is the new silver robot a replacement of the old white robot? Is this new robot a placeholder for something else? I am not to keen on one robot with a different logo on the faceplate for each race. I thought they talked about each race having their own unique robot - I understand this could still be coming but being out of the loop for a few weeks I feel like I have missed something.

If they do use the same robot I feel there should at least be some color variation between races. Also, in Brad/Frogboy’s posts I see a human advisor – what’s this all about? I kinda miss the old shiny pearl white robot – but to be fair when I tried to play Beta 5 I didn’t play humans so it may be still there.

Just looking for some clarification on what the advisor plans are if they have discussed them in the streams.

Thanks!

The are 3 teak bots, Terran's have the human scientist. every other race just gets a different skin of the two teak bots. The old teak bot and the logo teak bot.

If you play has a custom race you get the old teak bot with the old skin.

Though the XML does allow this to be changed, I do hope the work on some more non-robot scientists or even more variety of robot ones before they launch the full game. I know graphical assets like this take time and effort to produce but it would be well worth it.

I this final or are they implementing more?

I hope each race gets a proper adviser like the Terrans. The other races just having the same robot with a different race badge is not consistent art.

I agree at the very least all the major's should have their own scientist type with a selection of options for the custom races

Its probably a stop gap in-case Stardock runs out of time. Moders at least will add a lot of different robots. If stardock does not.

The Drengin should have a Torian slave scientist, for no self respecting Drengin will become a pencil pusher if he can whip the desired results out of a hapless slave; And when that one fails there are always others available for replacement, leaving the failure to become Torian rump roast. }:)

I love the torian slave scientist idea.

Why should the Yor get stuck with an inferior pet?  They really should get their own advisor. Maybe a pet iconian?

I miss the hot blonde chick in the old version of GC who got a scar and an eyepatch if you took the evil morality path.

While giving all the races a custom (person, bot, thing) will be a nice touch, and something I think they already intend to do, I don't think it's core to what they are focused on right now. They appear to be working more on adding features and fixing stability. Which I for one am all for. This is more of a late term project as it does not directly add any mechanics and is primarily just an addition of artwork. To sum up. I think they will do customs for each, I think it will be a great addition, I just don't think it's listed as high priority. Also, thinking isn't my strong suit so this is more of an opinion. Chocolate chip peanut butter cookies are the best thing ever. That is not an opinion but a cold hard fact.

I agree with you that this is not and should not be their primary focus right now, but keep in mind artists won't be fixing stability and adding features, they will be working on art assets for this or another project. The artists and the programmers and game designers are normally not the same people.

This issue is more likely to be one of controlling project costs, and freeing up the time of the 3D artists who may be working on StarDocks other projects; they are a business and need to make a profit so I can appreciate they will have a budget for this project that has to be controlled. Having said that I think people underestimate the impact of atmospheric touches like this on peoples enjoyment.
