Just as the title queries. Will the game be more focused towards Hard Science or not? Judging from the video I saw on Gamespot I heard there are only 13 resources? And it's only on Mars?
I think the developers should take a look at a game made by SIERRA On-line back in the 90's. The first "Outpost" game. It was somewhat Edutainment. Unfortunately they released that game unfinished.

For myself. I've been waiting for a game like it for a very long time. This comes close but I fear it won't come close enough
.
I would like to be able to outfit my ship on Earth with probes, satellites, supplies, colonists etc. Having to make careful decisions on what and how much to bring. Have to choose a Star System out of a great many star systems. Making my decisions based on the light spectrum the star is on, the mass etc etc. Then having to choose a planet in that star system and hope that all your decisions were the right decisions. Your colonists and colony's survival depend on that.
That game was one of the best games in my opinion. If you want an RTS that is Space Based, interesting, educational etc. The best games are ones where you're learning something new and having fun at the same time.
