Beta 4 - Commander
Under Sovereign Abilities "Reveal Champions" shows some champions but also some shards (with no Champion nearby).
Also after 7 spells there are no more spells to research. If there's some way to unlock more spells I can't see it.

If the number of spells is limited, it would be nice if the game mentioned it so you can reallocate your mana. I clicked through a few turns before I realized my little spell counter was showing: --
I do like the randomization and some choices disappearing... makes those random finds more special!
I have seen a few folks running out of spells to learn. Are you doing anything "weird" to make that happen. I ask because i have played A LOT games and never ran out. I have even tried a couple of time to purposely run out by putting everything into lore and just concentrate on spell learning, but never ran out
I played the wizard guy who starts with Tandis. I only had one city for quite a while, but was busy hypnotizing various minions to build my stack of doom (I don't think they cost logistics, do they?)
In my first game with the new laptop I played the guardian gal and had plenty of spells throughout the game, although I quit a little early as I spread my forces out too far without cloudwalk... So love the spell randomization part of this game.
But I didn't really adjust my mana much... although I did spike it to max mana for a bit to replenish my pool for some hypnotism spells. Did I research more higher level spells that exhausted my research pool? maybe...
Correct the do not cost logistics, nor do summoned units, or the one you get from the SK.
It does make you think. I hate it when i se 2 spell i really want, forced to pick one, and the other never shows up again. Might have something to do with the spell book category getting full so you can not learn any more of that type.
I have plenty of mana to spend, just no spells to research. I only have one town & it has 6 essence, which is totally useless. Are the number of spells linked to # of towns? That seems at odds with the usual Stardock plan of not encouraging town spamming. I can't see anything to teach my sovereign that will help. I was thinking that maybe picking commander has made me magic blind, but only having 7 spells is a real bummer in a game that's still primarily based on magic power.
I wonder if they randomize the number and you got a terribly low one?
Can some of the minor factions give you new spells?
Maybe a Sov ability to write a scroll into your spellbook for a mana cost and a chance to fizzle... or randomly morph into another spell? Or give it the base effect but with a unique twist (like Dungeon Crawl Classics)?
Seven is a bummer for sure!
Looking into this bug right now. There's some old 'Randomize Spells available to Research' code that needed to be ripped out, and now I'm getting spells I wasn't seeing before, so hopefully that'll fix this issue.
Awesome, you guys are on it!! Maybe make it a high-level sov unlock for additional spells if you do want a cap for certain sov types? I would imagine that certain sovs like the wizard would be able to delve deeper into the arcane arts than the tinkerer or guardian...
That's why I thought the commander type was purposely being handicapped. Glad to hear 7 spells wasn't on purpose. I totally agree that Mage type Sovs should have ability to unlock more and more powerful spells. After all that's their specialty. You just need to think of non-spell perks for high levels combat based Sovs to share with their armies to make players want to use them.
Any comments on the reveal champions lack of champions being revealed?
Started a new game as commander. You fixed it. I can keep researching spells now.

I think that the game gives you a set of randomized spells at the start of the game. If you see two spells you want, be rest assured picking one, because you will eventually get the other one. At least that is my experience.
I have run out of spells to research, but I guess it is easy with 4-5 shards.
The commander does need to be handicapped some. I think even beyond knights, the massive army sizes and logistics bonuses make it too easy, you can spam outposts with a commander and field a large enough army.

I just started a game with a commander, random map, medium etc. I have only 21 strategic and 9 tactical spells. I am pretty sure I have more spells, but for some reason I cannot get the game to give me the option of choosing a new spell. Do the commander only have access to 30 spells?
