Report Beta 4

Played the Tinkerer on normal first

Can confirm that the threat levelmed way screwed up. There were threat level 5 monsters wandering around the map when I had zero threat. Of course, I lost. I also found that getting sovereign point felt like it took much longer than in previous versions. This was on normal magic.

So I tried easy with supreme magic and still it felt like it took forever to get sovereign points. The reason this is important is because Tinkerer sovereign has special abilities that help with crafting and enchanting. By the time I got to the legendary crafting, I was already on the SK hitlist and screwed. Plus, I had half my party wiped out by those 72 hitpoint stalkers with maul.

I must admit that I did not craft as a tinkerer. I didn't make one item. Main reason: I didn't feel like I had enough material to make anything. I didn't feel like I got more loot than normal from battles and I still felt like making a chain coif for three guys was going to run me out of supplies pretty easily. I didn't enchant either. It just didn't feel fun but I've never found the crafting system that fun and it normally boils down to feeling like I never have enough resources to make decent armor or weapons.

I will say that this is the first time I really didn't have fun with the game. I may need to play as the Wizard again to see if it's just the tinkerer though.

I also wanted to make sure that the SK will destroy the players city if wins the city battle right? I wish it just took it over and maybe lost a level of food. That's really a harsh penalty because even if you destroy the wandering unit (the city got destroyed by the spawning because sk is grumpy units) then there is no option to rebuild the city. You have to start all over from level 1 whichi might be realistic but wasn't very fun.

I should point out that I really want the game to succeed. I've had a lot of fun with the game just less so in the tinkerer playthrough.

Thanks for the feedback.  What map size were you playing at?

Your welcome for the feedback. I hope I was constructive. I hate just saying i don't like this or that and not be constructive.

So with the current beta, I tried the Aeraon map on tiny (the first map choice). That's the one I got crushed by threat level 5 mobs.

The second game I played on tiny on the island map (archipelago)

I think we've figured out the issue.

There's been a minor update tonight that should address it.

Basically, the SK's garrisson armies were being sent out to attack when they were supposed to guard their post.

Well that would explain it.  Makes me feel good about beating it B)   .

Still, it appears like B4 increased number and level of SK units on the map maybe just a tad too much.   Prior to B4 i played hardest difficulty without much of a problem; The SK needed some beefing up.  Now that looks like a real challenge.

Oops forgot to ask.. does that mean there will be a patch? and if so do we need to opt in?

The patch downloaded automatically last night.

I'm happy to report that the wandering doomstacks didn't come out and play after the patch. It was a much more fun experience.

I actually used enchantment last night but the ui certainly need improvement. (I know that's on the list though)

It's still pretty hard to equip more than two guys as a tinkerer. I would hope to have more than that. It's possible I didn't utilize the spells much but I never really had enough mana. It was still too hard to go up the sovereign tree and get the useful spells. Me personally, I'd move the tinkerer spells to the beginning or give the common making stuff spell to the tinkerer from the beginning.

The rider and knight are still the best units besides the heros. I don't want them to be nerfed though. I'd just want to see the other units become more useful or less squashy. The squashy part could be solved by more loot generation or make upgrades work somewhat like FE in that you purchase overall upgrades for armor and weapons. I can say I never felt like I ever had enough loot to equip my army and that with at least 5-10 playthroughs.

I like the enchanting system but had to go to bed before I tested my epic dwarf and tanis the mauler of power! (curse the sleep)

I still wish towers weren't so generic and worked like the FE towers.

Had fun either way

I'm not sure how the Potion Masters skill of the Tinkerer is supposed to work - I used Potions in battle and they were used up.  I'm not sure what it means to "reuse the bottles" or whatever it says.  You may want to check the skill that allows you to reuse the scrolls too to make sure that that works, I haven't tried that yet.

Sometimes when talking to minor faction units you get the "Talk" cursor instead of the Arrow when the conversation screen comes up, and the active part of that is actually above the icon.  So unless you move the cursor way down you can't trigger the conversation options (and it seems like the game has stalled, when it hasn't).  I suggest you automatically revert the cursor to the standard one when a conversation dialog comes up.

I can confirm that the "Summon Burning Wraith" tactical combat summon item doesn't work.  Clicking on it does nothing.

I found even Beginner difficulty quite difficult.  When the Sorcerer King continually places powerful garrisons near your towns, even on low SK aggression it is pretty hard.  I suggest you make Normal difficulty a bit easier but still challenging (as others have suggested), and tone down the SK garrison strength in Beginner difficulty.

PS: How do you use the enchantments at the bottom of the equipment screen for the Tinkerer?  I'm not sure if they are there for other Sovs.  Does it require the crafting spellbook for example?

Seems like a bug. In the World Report window the details of the active quests are not visible. There is a portrait picture but no text describing the quest beneath it. This makes it really impossible to follow quests unless you can remember them.
