City graphics on map display

probably a silly question but...

Hi all,

 

Just got the game, i noticed that on the videos the cities and map locations have 3D visuals, on my map i just see an outline of what it is supposed to be.

this is what I would prefer to see:

Both images linked from Google images...

Probably some setting, but not having any luck.  Help would be appreciated.

What you're seeing in the top screenshot is the "cloth map" mode: this occurs when when you zoom out a certain distance. You can zoom back in sufficiently to get to the 3d map by rotating your mouse wheel.

In addition to that, there is a setting by which you may adjust the cloth map depth, or rather, how far out in the zoom process the map will switch from 3d to cloth.  

The adjustment can be found under "Options" in the main menu (or hit ESC in game), click the "Advanced Options" button at the bottom right of the pop-up.  Under the "Display" (middle) column, there is a slider labeled "Cloth Map Zoom Level".  Tweak to your heart's content.
