Would a unit editor add to the game play?

It's relatively early in the beta to tell, but I think that having a unit editor like in the Legendary Heroes might be useful. Trained units as they stand are not all that powerful, especially as you move towards end game. Certainly there are some that are potent like Paladin or Battlemage, but they seem a bit too specialized.

A unit editor would give more flexibility, allow for costly units that can justify the costs, say of extra logistics, and keep them competitive for end game.

I believe it was said somewhere (by Brad or others) that due to the removal of the unit editor, SK would have lower specs requirements, as the engine would have to render multiple different graphic unit configurations.

Therefore I do not believe that it is likely a unit editor will make it as a feature into SK.

No, I don't believe adding a unit editor would make the game better. Instead I'd like to see built units progress through level-ups, like they do in Civ5.

With skills as promotions? Yeah, that'd be ideal.

As it stands, the game runs pretty well on my mid-range system. I don't see this as being a huge problem.

Well just those map texture changes in the last update to .701 turned SK from unplayable to smooth on my low-end rig. I bet bringing back the 3D models from FE would tax the graphics anew. And while I like almost everything about FE, including its clunky characters, SK's graphics are IMO just better.

Think of Skyrim, just combining greaves with cuirass - a  'feature cut' from Oblivion - helped them to do more with graphics on the same console hardware.

I much prefer the SK system.  The unit editor and upgrading units in FE/LH was sub-par imo.

I like the unit editor in FE/LH, but I will forget about it in exchange for level progression for units with skills and not only for heroes.

The unit editor seemed to be used by most people to just pile up initiative boosting stuff.

I prefer the SK way.

I prefer the SK way as well, but some leveling perks for standard units would make them more useful and more fun. An option like this provides interesting decisions for the player, while investing the player more in each individual unit...a win-win if ever there was one.

One can still pile up 6 initiative rings in one's high level rider and enjoy 3-turns-in-a-row.

Overall, i think ordinary units have just enough individuality with these forged items. I also don't think we need some choices on level up. Every unit except soldier has potent level-ups now, and this is OK, IMO. Leave perks to heroes.

Agreed. Frogboy mentioned being able to craft level specific items for trained units so that sounds good to me. I do hope that will include weapons. Then not having skill trees for trained units will be totally fine.

So the consensus is against a unit editor?

So we want a crafting system combined with a Civ-style promotion system with perks?

That'd be my vote.

I'm a big fan of the unit editor in FE/LH but I don't think it would work in SC.

Perks on level up probably might tho yeah.

Do we think that units should have some way of upgrading their gear as well as perks (ex: from leather to plate)?
