I have the trinity edition. NO REBELLION. I am looking to use the Galaxy forge to play my custom maps. I am running the STEAM edition. Where do i save my maps to? do i have to create a galaxy forge? I've tried adding the custom maps the galaxy folder but they never show up. HELP PLEASE
Is there a "GalaxyForge" in the directory where you install mods on trinity? Find your mod path and go up a few levels and if there is a GalaxyForge folder try putting them there. If there isn't then you can make one and try, other than that I can't be of much assistance since I have Rebellion not Trinity 
the CORRECT location for the galaxy forge maps(that you havecreated OR downloaded)(for vanilla/entrnechment/diplomacy/trinity) is
for xp
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge
or for vista/windows 7/window 8
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge.
NOTE the first two folders after the 'user name' are hidden , so to see them you must first click on 'tools' then 'folder options', then 'view', then click on 'show hidden files& folders' then click ok, then you will be able to browse your want to the folder. I suggest when you find the folder that you create a shortcut to it on the desktop
NOTE 2 the 'user name' in the above paths is your WINDOWS login user name, eg Administrator

even with the steam edition? I don't have to put it in the steam/sinsofsolarempire folder
steam is for the EXECUTABLE game, not the mods/maps from my limited knowledge of it

So goto the folder. un hide the folders and then add the maps? What if they aren't there??
You should see those hidden folders or you did something wrong. Windows uses those folders for a lot of things besides Sins, so if you can't find the "AppData" folder you must still have hide hidden folders on.
Where do I go from there? on the left youll notice ironclad games. I created a folder specifically for sins of solar empire but it still didn't work. Disregard the rebellion as I had downloaded a mod for that by accident
You're in the wrong folder. Read Harpo's instruction, they say nothing about the My Games folder. Its in the My Games folder ONLY for Rebellion.
the local settings is for windows XP only, if you are using windows vista or later, then use the appdata\local path
