AI and War

I've started my second game since the 1.7 release. The first one ended prematurely when my starting army got wiped by a Ravenous Harridan spider thingy without my having founded a city.  :(

So far the AI are all pretty far ahead of me and I'm having a tough time since I started in an area that wasn't exactly bursting with decent settlement areas.

Anyway, I have had several AI declare war on me and then after some turns, ask for peace without ever getting any troops to my city.

Are they just bad at finding player cities or is it something else? Like they get distracted with other wars. I've gotten messages of several cities falling to other factions so I was just wondering if my remote location is hampering the AI somehow. Not that this probably hasn't saved my life since I doubt I could mount much of a defense.

Still, I'm curious about what is going on.

Your sovereign can settle the first city and your starting location should have at least one fertile tile with at least some food and production.

i remember reading that AI armies are monster armies . Though AI armies attack monsters themselves for leveling or loot , I think .

In any case I had hoped that lot of  monsters will prevent AI from getting to you too easy .

It very well might be monsters. I triggered a dark sorcerer, that is lurking near my capital. He may have acted as a barrier to entry for AI armies. My problem now is how to get rid of him. He one-shots me whenever I try to fight him.  8(|

Ha yeah, it can be quite strong at the beginning of the game. But nothing can really win against attrition. You might have to remove an monster army by sacrificing a several of your cannon fodder armies. But if it is singlehandlely protecting you against AI armies it might be to your benefit to let it hang around for abit before you kill him off.

Focus in whittling it down through superior numbers until that dark sorceror is alone then send in the finisher. If you die even at that point well give up and start spamming auto resolve with dark sorceror alone on the field.

I had several games where I had zero iron whatsoever. I was forced to slay forest and fire drakes protected by baby drakes just to gain access to iron xD Alot of brave militia died on that day basically they ran up to the drakes and spammed crush attack xD

You know I usually don't like sacrificing units but I think I may just have to harden my heart a bit and let some lambs go to the slaughter.

If you need training in sacrificing units for the greater good.. i suggest playing Imperial Guard from warhamemr 40k, it will get you up to speed quick whether you want to or not >.>
