Farming & Population Confusion

I'm sorry if I missed the answer in another post, but I am thoroughly confused to how population relates to food/farming and planet size. It was relatively simple in GalCiv2--farms gave you more room for pop, which effectively increased the planet size number (if memory serves). But in the Alpha I can't tell if there is even a pop cap at all and there is a lot of farming tech to unlock. I swear I read an explanation by Frogboy about how it works but now I can't find it. Anyone able to help a fellow space citizen out?

Not to my knowledge. There has been a detailed explanation on how the economy works, but not as for how population is limited. Beyond the food production, I mean. Even that, however, doesn't seem to work properly right now. I've had planets with a food production of 8mt, and a population of over 22b.
