Multi player voice chat?

Most of the games that have in game voice chat are MMO, or shooters of some sort. But i just how cool would it be if there was voice chat for diplomacy segments in multiplayer (provided there will be diplomacy phase of the turn or something of that sort).

Since 4x games MP sessions tend to get long(think HoMM3, Civ3) voice chat could go a long way in shortening the game just by means of optimizing communications. SO 2 or more players in an alliance can use voice chat all the time while rival players can only voice chat during diplomacy phase.

I know there is 10 TONs of software for voice com, but someone like me i am a lone player and games like Planetside 2, ME3 multiplayer and Black Light Retribution provide me with excellent opportunity to communicate with players that i meet for the first time in my life. So this is something i value greatly.

What are your thoughts on this topic? I know implementing such a thing this late in the development stage is far fetched, but its interesting to know if there is some community interest in such utility.

Not as far fetched as you might think. Steam has voice chat functionality already, and I've seen other games use it.

Some of us have used Skype for gaming chat on Demigod, Evony and such. It should work fine for GalCiv3 as well.  I'd assume that MP users will probably know each other to some extent and you can set up a separate group for each gaming group.

I'll agree steam chat or skype will do just fine. Now I'm sure they will have a in game text chat. So when your playing and have questions hit enter and ask away. Elemental does this, Sots 2 does this and I love it. Only problem is I tend to get to helpful and my turns start to slow down. (in multi i get yelled at for being too helpful) :-"

I like the idea. I would like to see this feature build into the game. I would like the game setup to use steam, so I don't have to multitask Skype.

I would only want voice chat if it showed the name of the person talking.

In my mind that's a no brainer that it should show the name of the player talking, the only name i know that does not is ME3 multiplayer co op, and it sux.
