Quest maps

I've been reading alot of old threads about Map Quests, Scribes and such. In my own game, newly bought Legenderay Heroes from Steam, I have yet to find any such scrolls.

I'm using a custom race. I have made a conclave, when it leveled up I put a Scroll Scribe there. Still, when I bring my hero close by, I can not buy any Quest Maps, just elemental summon and Blizzard. Even if I do buy these, they don't replaced with Quest Maps.

Am I doing something wrong? What will I need to do to get these Scrolls? I have read about the race that have some skill that lets him have those scrolls, but I don't want to play that race.

As you can imagine, I am new to this game. I would value any advice given even more greatly if it was written in a way that a noob would understand. Thanks alot for taking the time to help me!

I am afraid you've been reading the wrong threads. You cannot buy Quest Maps at the Scroll Scribe. You will have to select the Altar race or create a custom one with Wanderlust to get access to them. Or simply buy them in Altar's shop. If you are desperate, you can always cheat a little and make sure Altar is in the game.

I know there's a thread somewhere singing the praises of the Scroll Scribe, but in my not-so-humble opinion, it's almost always better to select the Oracle, for an extra Essence.

Altar race or custom race with wanderlust, ok check.

"Altar's shop", do you mean that it is sufficient that one of the AIs are Altar, and that I am atleast neutral with him?

Yeah, was only doing the Scribe thing since I wanted the maps.

Yes, you can buy all those nice faction-specific items in the shops of those specific factions.

You'll have to be in their territory, obviously, and not be at war with them. They don't have to like you.

It's very convenient. The downside is that it's a gamble to pick (or not pick) a 'unique gear'-type of faction trait.

The Scribe provides extra research also so it's a choice between extra essence or a possibly significant research boost along with access to the Blizzard scroll. Both are viable in certain situations. The Scribe is decent enough; it's the Archivist that's bad.

Yes, the Scribe is a valid option, unlike so many other city upgrades. Keep in mind that those % bonuses for research and Gildar only apply to a city's 'base production' of research/Gildar. So a 20% increase will net you 2 - 3 extra research. In the long run - once you have the Herbalist line of buildings completed - an Oracle will provide many more bonuses.

But if you like the scrolls or haven't started on the Herbalist line yet, the Scribe might be the better choice.

Personally, if I happen to have a Conclave with 1 essence (usually one I captured from the AI), I'll build a Scroll Scribe, because increasing the "multiply effect by number of essence slots" city effects from X1 to X2 is kind of lackluster.  Otherwise (for Conclaves with 2+ essence) I'll build an Oracle.

Zero essence conclaves should always build the oracle to unlock the essence required buildings (but what are you doing with a zero essence conclave?  Raze it if captured, except in very unusual circumstances.)
