[Suggestion] Backstage Pass / Season Pass

Stardock, please consider offering a "Backstage Pass* / Season Pass" if you plan on continual DLC's.

* a larger package purchased to support future developments to the game (ala a "season pass")... similar to the philosophy behind "beta-access" and "Kickstarter", but post-launch.  Personally I'm not really fond of the term "season pass", and think "backstage pass" (as in "backer") is not only more applicable, but also more inviting.

Season pass?   I've heard of season passes for cable sports packages.

Looking at >this I'm having a bit of difficulty justifying the purchase of the most recent DLC.  However, I wouldn't mind receiving it as part of a larger package that I had purchased to support future developments to the game (ala a "season pass")... similar to the philosophy behind "beta-access" and "Kickstarter", but post-launch.  Personally I'm not really fond of the term "season pass", and think "backstage pass" (as in "backer") is not only more applicable, but also more inviting.

The concept of the "Season Pass" is generally just a cheap gimmick/scam leading people into spending a lot more money than they would otherwise have to for DLC.  That, and you tend to end up bloating your game with a bunch of content you probably didn't want.

As always, there are a some exceptions -- I'm just happy Stardock doesn't do this.

I guess some people would rather pay one big fee than a bunch of little fees.  Even if it works out to be more money for the one big fee.   There is a convenience factor and time is money after all.

And some people have a lot of money to spend.

"A system that allows players to pay upfront and receive all of the DLC for a game, including DLC that has not yet been released. This lets the players receive a discount compared to buying DLC individually."

^ It's not a discount though -- not if you didn't want everything offered in the package.  Nearly every season pass I've come across gives you a good amount of bloat-content to justify its high price.  You end up generally spending more money doing this, not less.

Indeed, some people love throwing money at their games to save time these days.  But if Stardock started implementing options like -- "BUY THESE UNLOCK KEYS TO GET AWESOME STUFF THAT OTHERWISE TAKES TIME AND SKILL TO GET!"  or, "NEED MORE ESSENCE?  PAY 5 DOLLARS FOR 2 ESSENCE NOW!"

...I wouldn't be playing their games anymore.  :)

haha that'd be awesome.   2 dollars for an optional DLC that gave all your cities one extra essence.   Definitely be a lot of folks up in arms about that.  Can you imagine the rage?

Can you please go start your own thread if you're going to discuss a notion so distant from this thread's intent.

To quote myself from the second reply:

Looking at >this I'm having a bit of difficulty justifying the purchase of the most recent DLC.  However, I wouldn't mind receiving it as part of a larger package that I had purchased to support future developments to the game (ala a "season pass")... similar to the philosophy behind "beta-access" and "Kickstarter", but post-launch.  Personally I'm not really fond of the term "season pass", and think "backstage pass" (as in "backer") is not only more applicable, but also more inviting.

..and the post directly above your last one, containing a quote from the link in the OP:

"A system that allows players to pay upfront and receive all of the DLC for a game, including DLC that has not yet been released. This lets the players receive a discount compared to buying DLC individually."

Can you really picture Stardock abusing the system to such a fantastical degree?

You don't need to be rude; I was simply responding to another's post.  Didn't know that was against the rules.

Apparently you didn't see my edit above, when noticing you posted right before I did.  What you keep saying is not a discount though -- not if you didn't want everything offered in the package.  Nearly every season pass I've come across gives you a good amount of bloat-content to justify its high price.  You end up generally spending more money doing this, not less.  Hence the reason it's a cheap ploy.

And no, I can't imaging Stardock doing what I said in jest about essence and unlock keys.  It was a literal example of what other companies do however, and even if Stardock did something half as extreme, I'd still run the other way.

@cardinaldirection, welcome to the Internet.  Pull up a chair we're all friends here.  There is one thing: once you start a conversation it kind of takes on a life of its own, don't take it personally.

Just attempting to keep the thread on topic.

So let's call it a "Backstage Pass" then, and not abuse the system..
