The quest for Ascian, the cat.

What is this exactly? Is it a standard quest you trigger by finding it, or is it a random event?

Random event.

I've had this a couple of times, but can never find the cat. Any tips please?

Thanks.

I think when the Ascian event triggers, and you accept it, Ascian spawns somewhere on the map either at acceptance or once you get the Amethyst Collar.  In my recent game, she spawned right next to my town.  Luckily she did not attack it before I could get back with the Collar.  But I think she can spawn anywhere on the map.

The one time I found Ascian she also spawned right next to my city and I was able to recruit her.  One of the more enjoyable finds in this game.

As for the spawn of the cat, she will spawn within 24 tiles of your character. Hence she may be pretty difficult to find.

One of the updates must have made this event rarer(as it should be). My first 6 or 7 games I received it, but my last 8 I've seen neither hide nor hair.

Also, if another player finds the cat first - they may fight,  If cat is killed, the quest cannot succeed.  However, no notification that the cat is dead is made - so you never know,  no body is left to confirm ... alas.

I completed this a few versions ago (just before 1.0?) and can confirm - at least back then - that Ascian spawned before I actually got the collar, I think it was at the beginning of the quest. In that case Ascian spawned just outside the borders of one of my cities, I had to avoid her for a few turns while I completed the quest, then rushed over to collar her before she decided to raze a city.

Yes, she does spawn at the beginning of the quest. Also, you don't fail the quest if the cat is killed, you just do not get the Kitty and you will never know. But the color will work on any twisted, so you can leash yourself some poor unfortunate twisted :)

An escaped juggernaut is a nice consolation prize :D

Oooh, wish I'd thought of that.

Ascian is very powerful and well worth any sacrifice you have to make.   I've used her to kill off a drake.  Can be equipped with some items but not weapons or armor.

I had one game where I could nt find her.  I think she got killed.

yes, Ascian can get accesories but not armour, weapons or clothes. and Ascain is spawned at the start of the quest along with thelibrary that has the deamons and the damaged collar

Since I upgraded to 1.3 I have had the quest several times but have never found the cat again. found it numerous times at earlier versions. Possible bug in 1.3 ???

The code says that the monster should spawn. I think the cat is spawning, but a radius of 24 is rather large and the cat moves, making it really difficult to find.

I once leashed the big juggernaut character, Onger the Obnoxious or whatever he's called.  He's not quite as cool as Ascian, but a ton of firepower.

Ascian is a great hero and I've had her lead powerful armies. Once you get the message to go find her, send every available unit you can spare to check the outskirts of your kingdom, she seems to hang out there. Once you get her she levels up quickly and you can make her very deadly and hard to kill.

I just did that last night. Unfortunately, he doesn't level up at all. In fact, I think he's the only unit I've encountered that doesn't receive XP. Is this a  bug, or working as intended?

His Void weapon gives him negative 100% experience, so he gets 0% experience every fight.  (This is generally what happens when a player hero wields the weapon too.)

Ahhh, thank you very much! That makes sense. Is there a way to give him a different weapon?

No, he's not a champion, so he doesn't have an Equip screen and he stays with the weapon he starts with.

Last Night I finally actually caught that darn cat. :meow:

Although I encountered a bug, where if I put the collar on my toolbar in the battle or cast slow on Ascian, the collar disappeared from my items list and action bar. This was with Queen Procipinee. As long as I didn't do either of those things it seemed to work.
