Question about the Steam sale and original FE owners

I asked this question in the original Steam sale thread but it was locked without an answer so I will try again here.

Why are the original FE owners that got their copy from Stardock before they moved the game to Steam being penalized? Steam FE owners get to purchase LH for $9.99 on sale but Stardock FE owners have to pay $13.59. Rather than a response to the question, we instead get a day of silence followed by a statement that doesn't even address this, followed with a thread lock. This seems like a pretty crappy way for Stardock to treat their oldest customers. there's a question of perceived fairness here that deserves some kind of answer. Even it it's just "we're sorry but you have to pay more because (whatever the reason is)".

It noteworthy that the Kerbal Space Program devs faced a very similar issue because they were selling KSP in their store before moving to Steam. They responded to customer's concerns by providing optional Steam keys to those who had purchased it from their store. If Stardock had done this with FE, this would not be an issue now with Steam sales.

I've been a purchaser of Stardock games and a supporter of the company since the original GalCiv for PC and to have them now turn into the kind of a company that would act this way makes me sad. I guess the Stardock that I once knew is gone.

That's some serious sentiment over $3.60.

There's not a penalty being applied here.  Our store is not matching the Steam sales as the Steam sales are already providing a big value for either existing customers or first-time buyers of FE, LH.

Stardock store sales are not made to coincide with Steam sales.  Different retailers will charge different amounts.

Alas, poor Stardock! I knew him, Horatio; a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy; he hath borne me on his back a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is! My gorge rises at it. Here hung those lips that I have kissed I know not how oft. Where be your gibes now? Your gambols? Your songs? Your flashes of merriment, that were wont to set the table on a roar?

If this is your idea of outrageous betrayal, just wait until you fall in love.  You ain't seen nothing yet.

Thanks for the reply, an answer was all I was looking for. I don't agree that there's no penalty since I don't have the option of moving the game to Steam, but that's just the way it is. I was upset by the silence and the thread locking and not any particular answer you might possibly give.

Brad, I wasn't expecting Stardock to put it on sale. I was hoping there was a way to get a Steam key so that my copy would be included in the future for discounts on their sales.

I do dislike how folks who bought the GalCiv II expansions separately did not get keys on SDC, and have their games stuck on Impulse (which hardly anyone uses these days), whereas folks who bought the Ultimate Edition, who paid less in general, got to transfer their games over to SD directly.

That feels unfair.  It's a minor point as I don't see myself heading back to GalCiv II these days, but it was annoying around the time of the Impulse sale.

Locking topics tends to increase sentiment immensely.

Pro tip: if you find yourself getting worked up because a forum thread you were venting on got locked, go outside.

Nothing in life that revolves around $3.60 spent on a video game is worth getting upset about.

It's not about getting worked up.

It's about how you view people that squelch dissenting discussion.

You're at this point basically saying, "You mad?"  There is a reason that this is a favored line of trolls.  I'm not saying you are a troll, I'm saying that it's a meaningless argument to make, because it all can do is pointlessly sidetrack things... (and more to the point, means nothing).

"Squelch dissent"?

Seriously go outside. You have no idea what you are saying. This is Stardocks forum. Not your personal garden of whineration.

And you are whining. Which is what everyone here is trying to tell you. Stardock is a company that sells games. They set their own prices. You think it costs too much. And never the twain shall meet.

So what?

He has a right to 'whine' of he wants to. If the mods don't like it, they can tell him to stop. What business it is of yours if he chooses to express himself by 'whining' or expressing another point of view that doesn't fall in line with the 'SD Rawks!!!' crowd?

Since you like giving people suggestions, let me give one to you: if you don't like whining posts, don't read them. Simple, right?

So what?  Chicken butt!  That's what!  Let's all pretend we're in sixth grade!

I don't know how the mods would "tell him to stop" since his whining is literally about his belief that the mods are persecuting him.  Seem obvious that any negative interaction from the mods just play into his persecution complex.

SD RAWKS!

OK, it's time to move on now.  The questions have been answered and the back and forth needs to end.
