Research; is it cumulative?

I updated to the latest LH version 1.10  then exited to the desktop, shut down steam, rebooted the pc, double clicked the FELH icon and created a new game.

I chose to create a custom faction and sovereign: these settings, hugh map, Epic Research, challenging world, dense monsters, 5 AI opponents.

I settled my first village on a 4,3,2 tile and chose to Research Knowledge (Research displays as 0.8 per turn) and the Knowledge topic decreases at 1 per turn.

Turn 8 I settle my second village on a 4,3,2 tile, my unrest is 33% (Research for this city is 0.7)

Total Research now displays as 1.5 per season however the Knowledge topic only decreases at a rate of 1 per turn.

Turn 20 I complete the Knowledge topic (my first village also levels). While I'm in the Research screen I notice my total Research is listed as 0.7 per turn.

My first City has research listed as 0 per turn. (Maybe this is because I have not chosen what it will become yet?)

I leave the research screen on Leatherworking and click done. This throws me into the City Level-up popup (ie pick Conclave, Fortress, or Town).

I select Fortress. The window closes and now my Research for this City is 1.6 per turn.

Total Research is now displays as 2 per season (it's actually 2.4 I believe) I change research to Civics but it only decreases by 1 per turn.

So just how is Research suppose to work in an Epic setting? Does it half the Total Research per turn? Does it only use the Research from the last City?

Or is Research cumulative between Cities?

If it is suppose to be cumulative between cities then this would indicate either my game is bugged or perhaps the code is.

I've verified my game files and steam reports them fine.

Any info would be appreciated thanks for reading this.  I'm off for a power nap, will check this thread on waking :)

I am not sure if I understand you.

Yes, Research adds all your cities (and unit bonusses) from research additive upon each other.

I will assume you think that the research timer decreasing only 1 per turn is not working as you would think it would, correct?
If so: The timer only decreases 1 per turn because the total research time for the research (e.g. Leatherworking) is concluded from your total research in the top left corner of the screen.

Example (Math is obviously not correct): Let us assume you have 1 Research per turn. And you want to research Leatherworking. On Epic that would for example take 20 turns in total. The counter would then decrease once per turn.

Now if you enchant your city with "Inspiration" (from Water 1) you will gain 2 Research per turn. Leatherworking would then only take 10 turns in total. Of course: the COUNTER would still only decrease by 1 per turn, but it would only take 10 turns, not 20 anymore.

Yes you understood, my explanation was not so great; I should not post when exhausted.

Referring to the text I've put in bold above:

Yes, the fact that Total Research in the top left corner is displaying as 2 per turn but the COUNTER only decreases by 1 per turn seems to be the issue.

As an example: If a topic takes 40 turns to research and my Total Research displayed in the upper left is 5 per turn. Then when I end my turn and the next begins I expected to see the COUNTER in the upper right now display 35. It does not do this, instead it displays 39. This is indeed what caused my confusion.

I don't track how much Research I'm doing per turn in my head. I thought that's what the Counter was suppose to be doing for me. Would it not be better if it did?

Thank you for taking the time to explain this Nighthawk, I appreciate it.

You are confusing two different numbers.  The "2 research per turn" means just what it says. The COUNTER is telling you how many TURNS are remaining to complete the item. Not how much RESEARCH is remaining. By definition, the COUNTER will always reduce by 1 each turn (because it is counting turns).

Observe that if you do something to go from 1 to 2 research, the COUNTER will change from saying "this will require 20 more turns". To saying "this will require 10 more turns". (However, it might not make that change until after the next turn update. I forget. So instead of being 19 more turns next time, ti will be 9 more turns. Confirming that research is being accomplished faster now.)

Another way to see this: cancel what you are researching and start something else. Compare the research the item required (in the lower-left city window) to the number of turns listed in the upper right counter. If your total research is 2, then an item that takes 20 research should be shown as needing 10 turns to complete.
