Perplexing Quest Rewards? [The Prisoner]

I sort of expect that any quest the player completes will result in additional XP and Fame- the items/spells you sometimes get are just extras.

With that expectation, completing the demonic Prisoner variant was surprising. My army received no additional XP and no additional fame. I just triumphed over a huge DEMON! As the player gets some fame for cleaning out wolf dens, this was jarring. (Tough crowd, I guess.)

Is it common for quests to not award fame/xp upon completion? Or is this an outlier, and perhaps a bug?

I think it is a bug, I just posted about a fight reward for killing a dragon that was 12xp.  I did get fame for it though.

The Prisoner is a quest that will not grant you exp or fame because you fell into the demons lures.. Freeing him/it/she and then ecessarily defeating it. You did earn exp from combat. The quest will not grant you exp. Nor fame.

Also there are similiar quest such as the Scrying Pool Quest in the scenario.

This quest can have different endings... like the rat hunting quest.  I will not spoil it for folks who just got the game, though.

My understanding of the game is that the quests are set on quest hut creation- reloading a map before triggering the quest won't let players fish for a quest they want. As mentioned in the OP, this was the "demonic variant" of the prisoner quest. The demonic variant only has one ending-- free the prisoner (and fight the demon) or abandon the quest.

Regardless, it seems the like the devs made a deliberate choice to have no rewards with some quests. If they intended to do that, then I can see how "freeing a demon" could fall into the no rewards category. Thanks all.

As long as you get XP from the fight, i guess thats ok... but sometimes that doesnt happen either.  If that's intentional then that is just deliberately wasting the players time and effort.

I meant the quest can have different endings in different games, there is no choice the player can make to affect the reward or lack thereof.  I seem to get this quest almost every game, and I wanted to stay vague to let first time users enjoy the variation.

I only reload if I make a mistake moving a unit in tactical O:)

There is no option when doing the quest but to fall for the the demon's lures.   You are railroaded into falling for his lures if you pursue the quest at all.  The only way to not do this is to ignore the quest.   That's my beef with this particular quest.

You are correct, afaik there's no way to tell if you will have the good or bad outcome. Basically, you will always have to accept it and take your losses if you are unlucky. No sense in reloading either.

Quest battle xp still needs a fix.

Actually there are two quest of the same feel and type. Similar to Rats in the Inn. You can get a quest where instead of a fight you learn a spell. It is set up so you really don't know which option you will have until it is too late to change anything.
