Custom kindgom / empire how to remove / modify?

So I made a new faction, tailored them to my liking and wrote them a nice story as well. Then made a sovereign and kicked in the game. Then it struck me. Picking black as your faction color blows (despite they look awesome). Very hard to see your faction borders, building queues, faction power etc.

So I want to change that. But I have no way to access the custom faction I created? Can't delete or modify anything - or did I miss a button somewhere?

Much appreciated.

EDIT: I know I can delete the file and remake the faction, but this should have an in-game button to modify / delete a custom faction, same you have with custom sovereigns.

There is currently no way to modify a custom faction or sovereign without deleting, or overwriting the file. And be sure to turn off cloud saves before you do delete one, or they will just reappear. I'm not even sure if a complete uninstall will clear the cloud files, suspect that it won't.

This is one of my biggest gripes with the current state of the game, as I'm all about building, and playing with and against custom factions. That this still hasn't been addressed is quite bothersome, especially in a game that is advertised as being customisable.

BTW, yea, Black may not be the best choice for faction color for the reasons you describe, but man, the units really look good.

With factions just make a new faction with the same name and it will overwrite the old one. With sovereigns it will make a new one next to the other one (you can even play against your old sovereign).

I really agree there should be an edit button for these things. Also, in the troop design screen when I hit the edit button I don't want to have to delete the old one when I save THATS WHY I'M EDITING!

Gandalf I have no problem with steam cloud. Everything I removed in game (save files, custom sovereigns, retired custom designs) they are not present anymore when I restart the game.

Really? Has this been changed then and not noted in a patch log I wonder? It's been several versions since I have used the cloud save, if this issue is fixed I'll be mightily pleased, even if I do have to root around in the files.

Thanks for the heads up, turning it back on now.

Well except for the obvious custom kingdom / empire files which you can't delete from ingame :)

But yeah, I usually delete all saves between patches (since there are so many changes). And delete all custom units I designed for a faction when I play it again (as I want to try new things etc).

Right, still knowing the experiments that failed won't automatically be reappearing is a bonus at this point.

I do the same with saves, but the past couple of patches I've not deleted all of my custom factions/units, as I've gotten comfortable with their usefulness, only deleting the ones that didn't seem as effective, or that had traits that have changed.

And to clarify, that's for AI factions as well as the one I'm playing, I only play against custom factions, and I create at least 12-15 custom units for each faction.

As I said in another thread, since .09 I noticed AI is designing it's own units as they unlock tech. And they are defo not units I designed. For example Yithril had a level 7 scout with 30 armor and pikes, Tarth had ranged scouts with bows, and also like 6 different types of archery units with different names and equipment (some had high defense, others dmg & initiative, others spell resist etc). And late game Tarth did use my slayer archers - Scarecrows - mounted archery with top end leather armor and bows, buffed with damage, initiative and dodge and pumped them from a 4 essence fortress they took over from pariden. 1 group of 6 scarecrows had a terrifying atk of 140 - add double strike and 50% armor pen and is horrifying :) Was one of the few games were I felt helpless for not having aeromancy and air disciple :( (PS: he did use 50% fire resist cloaks on most of his units, so was impossible for me to nuke down before they could get some shots off meaning my heroes would flop).
