New armor opportunity and need :) - also, mod suggestion and proposal...

If Brad and Derek decide to keep the current system with leather, chain and plate armor, there is a very obvious opportunity and need to create higher-level armor of each type, in order to give heroes something to look for within their armor path.

While this armor can be added on by modders later in the game, it would be nice for the Stardock artists to spend some time generating icons and graphics for this armor, which could then be added to the loot tables.

Here are some initial name/concept ideas:

For the mage:

- Archmage robes

- Angel robes

- Emperor robes

- Necromancer robes

- Warlock robes

- Sovereign robes

For the assassin:

- Ranger armor

- Assassin armor

- Dark leather armor

- Garotteskin armor (and other armors made of the skin of beasts)

- Forester armor

For the commander:

- Several leather-based "uniforms" (corporal, leutenant, brigadier, general, marshal) with the relevant stripes and medals...

These new armors would not necessarily improve defence, but could influence the relevant statistics for each hero (e.g. accuracy for archers, crit strike for assassins, spell mastery for mages, healing rate for commanders etc.)

I hope this idea gets picked up, either by Stardock or by some enterprising modder out there. Parrotmath or Heavenfall (or anyone else), if you would be willing to work on the graphics, I would love to collaborate with all the core concept ideas and item coding - what do you say?

Best, bendiwolf

Not for me, sorry.

I dunno - my first impression was too much 'gear for WoW' feel; grinding for the right drop for my lvl 15 assassin so he's got the +crit gear.

Perhaps you didn't mean it quite that way - and maybe the issue is more that the treasures we find are a tad underwhelming sometimes. I kind of agree that in general quest rewards/items/etc found for our hero's use could use a look - but I really feel there are some bigger issues that I personally would like to be looked at first. It's all personal opinion, though - this is one of those games that's big enough we can all have our favorite parts to it!

I just think they need like a Masterwork Leather set, researched in the late/middle of the warfare tree, then Champion Leather and Champion Chain in the magic tree, same tech as Champion Plate. Also unlink Masterwork Chain and Light Plate from traits. For starters anyway. Then maybe later they could add some more flavorful armor types unique to certain races, one per maybe, still found in the tech tree though.

I would say, see what SD comes out with first in 1.0 before jumping ahead to how to mod it...

But yes, in principle, I agree that if SD is indeed moving in the direction of clumping armor types, then different suits of each type may be the next step...
