How do you level your champions?

I like to go for lategame in my games, so I enjoy leveling my champions a lot. The only problem with this is: there doesn't seem to be enough XP on the map to level more than 1 champion, unless you have the Wanderlust trait and keep buying new quest maps (which is a little annoying too since it requires a lot of clicks to go from buying the map to using it; there's also some quest locations that are bugged out and won't start a quest upon walking onto the tile).

In my current game I already did all the quests in my region (which is half the map), cleared the earth wildland along with Delin and fought the AI some (killed 2 or 3 AIs off myself, although they do give a lot less XP than monsters in the wild). My sovereign also has tutelage from level 1 on and knowledge since level 2 and he only made it to level 17 in 465 turn eventhough he fought pretty much all battles throughout the game.

Meanwhile the rest of my champions have to sit in a settlement with an adventurer's guild where they barely gain any XP either.

In FE I had several champions be able to reach level 15+, some even 20+, a few level 25+ playing Men (so +10% xp) and using Wanderlust, buying several quest maps each turn (although it gets boring having to click that much every turn).

In my opinion the leveling feels kinda off because your champions need to be high level now to reach the good skills, in FE you could get the good stuff early by just dodging the bad random skills available. I think Wanderlust should be more about getting additional rewards from quests than about being able to reach high level at all (by that I mean, everyone should be able to reach a high level off the XP available on the map, Wanderlust should just make it a little faster or more rewarding).

How do you guys feel about champion progression in LH?

yeah i agree that champion progression needs some love. for this iteration of the beta, they seem to gain XP way to slowly. there's little point having that new fame system when realistically you can't even use most of them and have to put them on governing duty most of the time.

i don't know if there's an easy solution for this. getting more xp per battle would be a good start probably. and getting rid of some of the intermediate tiers of repeated +stat traits to make the trees shorter and more meaningful.

i have a feeling that the hero system wasn't really fleshed out yet and that it will be the focus of a later stage of the beta.

I play on dense monsters, and most of my game focus is on killing the inordinate amount of them...

I've found champions to be mostly useless due to the experience penalty of using them. If I play assassin I just roam solo after level 6 (no army) and trounce everything due to dodge being crazy (3% chance to get hit). If I play summoner then I use an elemental army at the start and add henchmen later. P.S. Thank you Stardock for making summoner really good. It was such a disappointment in FE.

How do you guys feel about champion progression in LH?

I think that the champion progression is very good, because it makes the General profession (+ 25 % xp) and the level 2 Air spell (+ 25 % xp) useful.

My suggestions right now:

 

Knowledge should become Affinity, Affinity should be dropped


All XP boosting stuff should go, it isn't needed

 

Champ stacking should be allowed, or the penalty should be reduced.

 

Amounts to lvl should become less exponential.

 

Champ trees need to be reworked

- bonus traits should br 10/10/10 where it was 5/10/15

- lethal should be a percantage

- these traits should be their own branches, not prerequisites.   To get to the fun stuff now you have to take large amounts of skills you don't want/need.   Level requirements would work better, or having prereqs from the general tree instead.

- things need to make more logical sense

Why should levelling be quicker? I already beat Strong armies fairly easily when my army is medium, I don't think you should be able to take on deadly till much later in the game.

I feel like a BROKEN RECORD. I have cried so much about this gasp!!! on Challenging or higher ( why Challenging , because the AI is said to use its BEST play ) the exp is so sparce that I can't use HEROS outside of looting the and stripping thier spells. Why because I have to SPLIT exp with them. And on tough difficulty level, 1 level 20 will beat 3 level 10's......At least no 3 level 10's attacking me at a time stand a chance if i'm level20. So if I split my exp I have 3 level 10'S :S
