Suggestion: Spend fame to level heroes

Great improvements to gameplay so far; really good design choices, congratulatios!

As a suggestion, you might think about using fame to promote heroes (1 fame point per exp) for the commander/governor cast (and any others, for that matter, but combat exp will surely swamp the fame based stuff).  Now you have a tradeoff; do I level up my few heroes, or try to attract a new one and increase my ranks?

I think that this is a very good idea, but every Commander should get 2 xp per fame point.

I love this idea.  Right now I think you get too many heroes early-game, would like to see fewer but stronger heroes in general right now.

Destiny's Insight (+ 25 xp) should cost 2 fame instead of 200 mana and Destiny's Gift (+ 1 attack, + 1 initiative or + 3 hit points) should cost 5 fame instead of 150 mana.

This is a very good base for many ideas in fact.   You could make Fame a real resource instead of just a "counter till something interesting happens"

 

1. Spend fame for Hero xp.

2. Spend fame as maintence on pop/production related spells (i.e. a stronger version of Sovereigns call, 2 fame a turn cost gives 3 pop).

3. Spending fame for henchmen is already in.

4. Spend it on "Celebrations" aka random positive mid-duration empire events.

5. Spend fame to buy trait points(like 200 fame a point)

6. Spend it to Cast Quest or rare spells - Call Legendary hero(summon an overstated hero, limit 1 per customer)

7. Use it to incorporate more Faction specific/special buildings - 50 fame, 10 turn build or cast and you could get 1 shard of your choice in a city, limit 1 per faction

 

If we switch mental gears and instead of thinking about fame as a "Count" like prestige, and instead make it production resource but on the Empire level there are many interesting things that can be done.

I like the idea but the fame numbers a way low.

The question is:  if I cross a hero Fame threshold, then spend Fame, and then recross the threshold, will more heroes show up?

Spend fame as upkeep on that spell which lets you steal units.

Hmmm, perhaps it would be easier and more interesting to offer one hero and one item (magic item or xp book) at every fame threshold.

Honestly, I would prefer that they have a spell that puts out a call for heroes and have the spell cost increase each cast.

Call the Heroes!: 5, 25, 125, 500, 1000

or something similiar.
