The Champions were gone in no time in my game!

I didn't even get 1 champion in my latest game and I had them set to lots. I did see 1 but I didn't have enough gildar to buy it and by the time I did it was gone (gloom despair and agony on meeeeeee). The AI swept through the lands and got all of them in less than 100 turns if not less than 50. :( Either that or roaming bands of bandits and monsters ate them?

As a consolation though I got two of those lovely archer units early in the game from quests and a sand golem thingy. ;) I love those archers hell you can beat almost anything with those things and a little proper spell usage like blind or everything being a critical hit on the opponent. ;) I have to say that summon warg dog +2lvls is about a waste after a very short time. The sand golem made that warg dog look like a puppy.

How cant you get 1 champion?

There is one guranteed within 4 tiles of starting spot, it is guranteed to be less than 150 gildar and one starts with 150 gildar. Only way would be to waste that 150 for rushing.

Then you not getting 1 champion was your choice. The first champion is normally recruited in turn 1 or 2, no chance for the AI to get him.

I doubt it would ever be worth to skip getting the 1st champion on turn 1 or 2,because even if he has exactly the same magic skills as sovereign and no research and gildar bonus, his fighting power alone is worth the 100 gildar, because it doubles the military strength, allowing to clear more creeps and pump out mroe pioneers. And if he has a missing magic skill, allowing to boost city (e.g. earth for more production, life for more growth, death for free unrest reduction) or reserch/gildar per turn, the return of investment could be about 10% per turn on top of doubling fighting power, which is beyond anthing achievable by rushing.

I have like five in my current game as the Resoln.  I am pretty aggressive about acquiring them early in game, and I usually get good ones....

Well, this is the sort of complaint that will mean that Legendary Heroes will be right for you.

maybe one of the AI in your game was Lord Relias of the Altar (or a custom sovereign with the Adventurer Profession) and they bee-lined the champion unlock techs. Adventurer Sovs can hire champions for free, so they wouldn't even need an insane gildar bonus to steal every single champ on the map.

I actually HATE the idea of that in LH and may not get it because of that. Even though I didn't get 1 in this game I certainly like exploring for them instead of them being handed to me on a silver platter. That's the WORST idea they've had imho. Why screw the fun of exploration up like that?

I suspect that the champions in your game know who they are dealing with, and are quickly joining the other side..just to get away from you.  :D

You'd never make a good detective then, better keep your burger king job. ;)

I do not know, why this discussion should go on, willie sanderson said in third post that he spent early money on other things than heroes. Naturally then he does not get any, as the AI is probably programmed not to commit such a mistake or has enough starting funds to avoid the problem of lacking money to hire.

no the AI gives you plenty of time to hire all the heroes on the map if you try (except perhaps some of the level 1's)
