For those of you that may not know, it looks like the game is supposed to be released on the 19th.

It's greatly improved over the last beta round, but I have my doubts it'll make that date based on the current beta candidate. And that really isn't a big deal.

Does anyone know if the new one will have an English manual?

Well, I got into the last beta, and it comes with what the developers refer to as a "brief manual." It discusses all the game's basics, with the exception of diplomacy.

It depends on your playstyle obviously, but for newer players, I wouldn't recommend a Wizard start. IMHO, the most efficient start is Warrior. You only need one building and you can throw some cheap armor on him and usually be able to take at least one province within 1-2 turns. Exploring your home province should be secondary to securing as many provinces as you can as fast as you can. Skip straight to swordsman and healers as the other tier 1 units are a waste of time and money. Once you can't win provinces, then focus on exploring and leveling your hero. Crystal quests are key early game. Focus armor over damage on the warrior. having the fastest start is in my experience, the absolute most important thing. Oh yeah, build mills whenever possible and any city buildings that give you income.

See Glazunov1, this guy gets it. Personally I go for archer and like Aragorn here I only use swordsman and healers at start.

I have my pre-purchase done, just have to wait about 2 hours as of the time of this writing.

I just hope they did some fixing before they released it ...

Final beta was announced like 3 days ago, and game still has bugs. It requires also quite frequent saving/loading since it freezes/gets blocked often, too often for my taste actually. Just hope that they did something with that or game will get crushed in reviews, and that will be a pity.

Curiously, they appear to running their round three beta even though the game is now available from Steam. I'm not quite sure what's going on, though it's been asked about in their forums.

Gotta say, I'm really enjoying this game so far. Haven't had any issues at all in about 4 or 5 hours of play.

Multiplayer I guess still isn't functional according to the forums, but they are saying they'll have a fix next week. Won't affect me at all, but good to hear they are on top of it for those who care.

The only outstanding complaint I have is with the new construction screen. The old one from Genesis was a little awkward, but this is a mess. Otherwise, I like what they've done very well.

My first impressions are good. I never played the beta, so have no clue about the UI for it. I have no issues with any of the UI in the release version. Everything looks straightforward to me. There few glitches here and there, but no show stoppers yet.

thanks for bringing that game to my attention. looks interesting :) just bought it and downloading right now.

So, what's the verdict on release? How does it compare to LH for example?

i've only played about 3 hrs now, but i think it's a good game. the economy/empire building aspect is more straigthforward and tactical battles seem to be the main focus of the game. so far, game works stable, had no crashes or freezes etc. yet.

The only thing I don't care for so far is the lack of ZoC during tactical. I hate that you/enemy can walk right past opposition to get to another unit. I wouldn't mind it as say some type of level-up or special feature of certain units, or for flying units either. But it just makes it a bit to easy to go right for the soft center of the tactical formation.

I really don't like the UI, very little is explained when I hover over stuff (look for tooltips with "?" in bottom right, they get larger if you keep the mouse on them). Sometimes the UI just gives me wrong info; says I'll kill an enemy guaranteed in an attack and then it fails. And that monstrosity that is city building, both normal and "advanced" - rarely do I say this but the UI for that should just be thrown out. Such a shame with a beautiful city 3d overview.

I loathe having to "explore" provinces just to uncover places I can visit. It works thematically, but just makes for very boring gameplay over time. I like the idea on paper, it just seems so overused. Dom3 handled exploration of magical sites a lot better.

I liked the combat. The game seems to have fewer active/passive abilities for units, but they are much more traditional than say LH or Might and magic Heroes 6 (this is a good thing). I don't really get if flanking is a thing, or if I can surround enemies. As for complexity I can't really say, haven't played enough. The AI certainly didn't throw me any surprises, every fight played out more or less as I expected.

I found the durability system for items tiresome and not fun at all. Although the game does appear to have randomized items (I think?), ie suffixes, prefixes. Which is great.

I'm going to keep playing but so far the game doesn't stand out as very good to me, nothing has given me any "wow" sensation and I don't have the "one more turn" feeling either.

 Edit: How's modding like?

I am not sure city building can be any more clear than it is now. It is an old style game, that requires simply from a user to learn. I play games for decades but i have never seen such complex building system. We spent long time on forums debating, but in the end we could not find any solutions that would improve current UI. Too many buildings, too many dependencies etc. but after a while it is quite easy to build and plan what you want.

Game is build around choices: exploring, coming back to capital, watching your armor, attacking etc. Every turn you have to make decision what to do with your hero, and plan how to be effective, and on higher difficulties AI is simply devastating. It is a rich game and provides a good challenge, with incredible depth. On the other hand, first couple hours can be kind of deceptive, when you think you mastered game it just simply starts :)

Not that I've seen. I suspect everybody is waiting for the gold release, although confusion remains about whether it has been released, or hasn't. Since it's still being tested in beta.

As for the construction screen, it is a thorough-going mess, I agree. Genesis was far better.

Each to their own. What is it about the construction UI in detail you prefer to that of Genesis? Just curious, because this single feature has been panned by most MotBW beta testers.

I got some more playtime in. I still don't see any issue with the UI. Maybe it's me I have been playing some late 80's early 90's games lately, but Eador seems very straightforward to me.

I have found a nasty bug when attacking your own guards. I have some robbers as guards for one of my cities. That city seems to go into rebel every turn, so I decided it's time to replace the robbers. Well attacking them causes all kinds of issues. First my guys dont show on the combat screen. Seccond I can't finish the combat. Third I can control the enemy. Overall attacking your own guards is broken, even if I just kill off all the robbers the combat will not end. Other then that so far no other issues.

I seen some folks bellyache about the slow combat. There is a slider for speeding it up which works fine. Combat itself reminds me of Kings Bounty which I really like.

I played Genesis this morning. I do not see how that UI is any better. IMO the UI should be a very low priority for fixes. This combat bug needs fixed asap.

I find that most of beta testers that were criticizing new system were old veterans of Genesis, used already to existing one. I started to play Genesis one week before i started to play Edor 2 and Genesis was very confusing to me. If i wanted to plan to build a 4th tier building it was very hard to me to discover what i want to build first, and how to get there. In Eador 2 i figure it out. I just click on building i want, then i see what are requirements, and which are build; if i did not build it, i continue clicking till i make to something that i can build. I could not do that in Genesis, or did not figure out how to do it.
