What Next?

Yes it hasnt been a year since Rebellion was released. But Im curious as to where SoaSE is going.

Are we in for a fourth expansion? If so whats the background for it? Entrenchment was all about digging in and going for the long haul. Diplomacy was all about out smarting your opponents with politics. And obviously Rebellion is all about how the very long war is starting to cause these Empires to shatter. So does the expansion focus on the threat thats following the Vasari? But that cant be it. I mean, that would add another race into the mix and thats something that would require another game of its own. So that requires a question of its own.

Can we look forward to a full fledged Sequel? Will this sequel bring new and revised roles for the Capitals? Can we look forward to a more indepth story. Maybe the revelation of who/what this mysterious threat is? Will there be more customization then just colors and an Avatar? More to do when it comes to our colonies? Not just building slots but some focus on what the planets economy depends on and being able to tweak it to benefit your war machine. Instead of "Capturing" planets as TEC you can influence them to work for you. Never did make sense, if the TEC were so wide spread and the Vasari were invading TEC Space...why they were fighting to swallow up planets between them only to fight over it.

With so much left unanswered I doubt they would leave this storyline where it is. But it be nice to contemplate what exactly is in store for SINs in the future.

My personal bet is that Sins will be getting a break for a little while. Ironclad, the development team, is working on a new game, Sins of a Dark Age, and thus they will be spending most of their time on that and I'll bet anything we won't see a Sins 2 until then.

Granted, much of the implementation work for Rebellion has been done by Stardock, the publisher, but they also released Fallen Enchantress not too long ago and have done some DLC for that. They are also working on a new game I believe but I bet it is not Sins related as Ironclad would need to be involved in anything serious.

They're is also the technical fact that Sins engine is probably at the point where the extra work involved in modifying it is equal to just starting over from scratch, so I believe that makes another expansion like Rebellion unlikely.

I'm pretty sure Rebellion was "Shipped" due to a lot of community outrage when we found out that Diplomacy was going to be the last expansion after being promised 3.  Likely, Sins 2 is the next step, hopefully with some sort of campaign and the Vasari enemy...

Well, in any case Rebellion helped them making a lot of money so Sins 2 is likely. Although probably in the distant future.

A campaign would certainly be nice.

About the Vasari enemy I am not so sure..... that would mean a fourth faction..... and would be a nighmare to balance and nearly impossible to justify in lore.

I mean this unknown enemy crushed the ENTIRE Vasari Empire... it would effortlessly moop the floor with any other race.

For game purposes, the race has to be equal.... but then that brings up the point of why the Vasari are running at all.

I think it would be wiser to create a lore where all factions successfuly escaped our galaxy from the unknown threat and start over in ta new galaxy... and of course... you now humanity.. in time they will be at war again.

Or create some tremendous cataclysm that happened to wipe out the Vasari menance..... by lucky accident. So the Vasari no longer need to run.... and so the Vasari begin to rebuild their empire. But of course the other factions dislike that idea and as vasari expansion is usually expand explore conquer soon war rages again.

Unless the 4th race was campaign only, and the other 3 races were working together.  Vas don't have everything, just the best weapons.  Give them the TEC Economy and the Advent Shielding/drone swarms, plus a few other things, and you'd have a god-awful monster to contend with.

They had an empire that outclasses both TEC and advent empires many times.

Consider... the Vasari onlsaught on the TEC was ONE surviving colonly....

The Vasari Empire at its height could have effortlessy crushed both TEC and Advent, by numbers alone. Not even considering their superior Tech.

As such a power that could destroy it would effortlessy moop the floor with any Advent/TEC/Vasari Alliance.
