New Player - Couple of Questions

New to the game, loving it so far, but i have a couple of questions and would appreciate your kind help in enlightening me.

1. I have 2 towns and in between theres a couple of resources that i claimed via Outpost. Theres no "Settle" area(one of the threads i read, AI can settle anywhere), AI comes in to one corner untouched by my Area of Influence, builds a town and their Area of Influence claims all my outpost and resources. Is there a way to combat this w/o going to war?

2. Are the "Settle" areas randomly spawned throughout a game at any turn and location? or theres a fixed number of "Settle" areas that are generated at the Start of the game only. Cos i swear i saw a few spots that were "empty" previously, suddenly can support a town in mid game.

3. Similar to Qn. 2. Are Champions, Loot Area, Mob Lairs, Mobs, Quest Starter Areas randomly spawned throughout a game at any turn and location or theres a fixed amount spawned at start of the game? Cos i want to disband the Champion or sacrifice it if its useless etc etc and am afraid i will run out of Champions to field.

4. Are AI invisible to Monsters? Many times i've seen AI safely placing outposts or towns right beside a lair or mob.

5. There are some Strategic spells that grants Fireball or Heal spell to a Champion, i am able to only use it 1 time each. How do i enable that particular Strategic Spell to be casted on multiple Champions?

6. Only Champions and Sovereigns have spells & abilities?(disregarding the racial abilities like Berzerk or quest units or tamed/summoned/lair units) I trained a Mage and was sooo disappointed to find out that shes a Mage because she auto-attacks with a staff that shoots fireballs =(. I wish they had an "Abilities & Spells" section for normal units, maybe make the abilities weaker or longer CD to balance out.

7. Are the different tier units that are researched, essentially all the same? Like for example, the Baron compared to a Warrior is just a small upgrade of chain boots and gloves and traits, so basically i can created a Baron using a Warrior. Theres no inherent bonuses/spells/abilites/attributes that defines the different Unit Templates in research tree?(besides the Golem/Juggernaut/Male/Female)

Thats it for now. Looking forward to your replies!!!

1. Unfortunately, not really.  You can take an outpost with a city, but you can only take a city with armies.

You can snake your two cities and try to reestablish a link between their zones of control, but going to war or giving up the resources is probably better.

2. Your dominion regenerates the land.

3.  Fixed number. It's seldom worth sacrificing or disbanding a champion.  If nothing else, they can be used to reduce unrest by 5%.  And even the most messed up champion is worth something as a general.  A healthy one is definitely worth keeping.

4. That's unclear.  They should not be, the developers say they are not, but many players insist there's something fishy going on.  Personally, I keep vacillating between the two positions.

5. I've used them on multiple champions.  If you cannot, it's a bug, unless there is a cool-down timer.

6. Henchmen can cast spells too, and even use Path books, but that's it, as far as I know.

7. Unit names are just that, names for templates.  Standard designs are actually so suboptimal that it's not even funny.  Roll your own, and never look back.  Best (or worst) thing is, once you make some good units, the AI for that race starts using them.  You have not fought Yithril until they start fielding well designed juggernauts.... well designed by yourself.

Thx for your reply Tuidjy. Hope you don't mind more questions from me.

2. What does it mean by your dominion regenerates the land? Also this means that I just have to wait for a Yield to pop up in my Area of Influence? What are the factors that affect the regeneration of Yield areas?

3. Thats pretty sad haha. My current playthrough has 4 Champions that are crappy, too many useless passive traits and more geared towards "Town Management". I'm a war monger haha, doesn't suit my play style.

But for these "Governor Champions", i have to garrison them in the city for their passives to work? or can i just bring them with my army to level up?

Anyways Loot Area, Mob Lairs, Mobs, Quest Starter Areas also don't regenerate right? Damn lol, thought i can keep farming gear and exp for my champions...

5. After referring to the SpellBook website, i found out Anointed by Fire and Blessing of Restoration can only be cast on 1 champion at a time. Do Spells/Abilities scale with Level or Tech?

6. Henchmen means those mobs trained periodically for free at Orge Lair, Mercenary Camps etc? They should make Warfare research bonuses apply to Henchman too, they are extremely weak mid game onwards lol.

7. Very nice AI design. Just a query, this game is not meant for you to field mass "High Quality" units right? I always find myself having only 3-4 units with power gears like rings/necklace/plate and top tier armor and weapons. The rest of my army are all mainstream, base template designs. I usually have sufficient Gildar(to rush units) but always find myself short on Crystal/Metal to field a sizeable amount of "High Quality" units.

2. Yes, your area of influence makes tiles become fertile.  It does not work on all tiles, and of course, for it to matter, the tiles must be far away from the center of all nearby cities.  This is why you usually get useable tiles at the edge of a city's tipple extended Zone of Control, and that only if the city has been snaked far enough from its center.

3. Governors are not completely useless in combat.  They have access to the Trainer and Swordman lines, and you may be able to get them a Air spellbook for Haste.  Sure, that's not much, but it's more than nothing, and when their armies take a city, the governor ability let you actually build in it.

4. No, very few things regenerate.  You can leave lairs uncleared for loot and experience, but it's not really worth it.  The quest maps that you can find in Altar stores give you an endless supply of quests, though.

5. I did not know they had a limit.

6. No, henchmen are a special unit type only available to Altar, or rather to races with Men blood type.  There are significantly better than heroes in most respects.

7. In general you are correct.  There is not enough metal/crystal to field too many high end units.  That said, some very effective troops require very little iron, and not all that much crystal. But usually these are specialty troops using a race strength. Like Tarth bowmen, Krax dodging troops, Yithril's juggernauts, etc...

In the beginning you dont need much metal/crystal and its easy not to think about claiming those resources. BUT if you plan ahead, you can have a lot of it when the need finally comes to frutition. So build on metal and crystal early if you can and start collecting.
