Why do I suck ?

I played a little warlock master of the arcane but it was buggy, so I grabbed a copy of Enchantress which I really like.

I'm definitely no stranger to RPG/Strategy games.

Ok so have been playing this for a few days... I have rejigged the settings down from Normal and still I put down 4 cities to begin with come out of the dark and find the computer with 5x my rating. It was 20x my rating on normal settings.

First question - What is the rating based on ?

I tend to be more of a defensive player and perhaps I'm just not expanding quickly enough or something ?

(This is on the random maps obviously).

Why do I suck ? I guess I ask this because I'm suspicious that perhaps I might not be putting down enough cities right away or something ?

Im wondering the same thing. I thought it was because of my cities at first. So i got like 5 or so at the get go. when that wasnt it i then focused on research. Nope. I think  big part of it is military power though. As when i start attacking then my rating starts to increase. Other then that IDK and i am wondering why myself.

The first 100 turns are pure RPG. Set up a city to focus on production and start building an army of units from loot items to supplement your Sov. Learn what you can kill and when. Become a master.

Its ALL about the offense.

Expand and exterminate.DONT Sit back,or you'll get boxed in,and wont be able to exploit or explore. Its basically a rush to kill, nothing more.

I used to have the same problem, until I started playing aggressively.  Start building your army early, or expect to get lapped.  Having a solid offensive force makes further expansion and defense possible.

I wouldn't be overly concerned with the Faction Power ratings.  Human players will sometimes lag behind, but can come storming back once the fighting begins.
