[REVIEW] Fallen Enchantress is "well crafted, very polished, and contains seemingly endless possibilities and content." (Liquid Electron)

Elemental: Fallen Enchantress is the stand alone expansion to 2010’s worst game of the year, Elemental: War on Magic.  The biggest flaw WoM had was that it took the ball from Master of Magic and other incredible, turn based strategy empire games like it and fumbled.  Hard.  Boring, bland spells and armies, complex and unrewarding economies, deeply flawed gameplay mechanics and game rules.  The list goes on.  It was my most anticipated game of that year, and it let us all down.  With the promise of doing it right this time, new talent was hired (including the lead designer for Civilization V, Jon Shafer) and a much bigger budget was allotted for Fallen Enchantress.  People who purchased the War on Magic game were informed Fallen Enchantress would be a free game for them, by way of atonement.  The day has finally arrived.  Is Fallen Enchantress the redemption Stardock was aiming for?

I am happy to report that so far, my early impressions after starting two games (and getting to a point where I lost both of them) is that this is actually something potentially special and is fun and deserves to be given a try.  Is it a perfect strategy game?  Well, no, but neither is XCOM or CiV as far as that goes.  What it is, however, is well crafted, very polished, and contains seemingly endless possibilities and content.

Good Catch, Chibiabos ! ... I think you've found the first (real) professional review of FE.

[ Edit:  Well, semi-professional at least ... anyways, it has some good content and observations. ]

No, unfortunately, frogboy did with gamingogre.  I'm determined to not let him win the find-the-reviews game, though! :P

I should have clarified.  I liked the GamingOgre review; but it could be called into question somewhat, because of a (one-time) business relationship between Stardock and the gentleman behind GamingOgre.  I intend no slur or slight; it was a good review, but it's objectivity might have been questioned by some.

What relationship?

Frogboy, I apologize.  I am going to remove my previous reply in this thread, because I can no longer find the information, that led me to my belief.  It appears I may have been wrong.

We aren't actually professionals, for the record.  We just do game reviews and impressions because we like to.  I think this is the most exposure we've had to date!  I appreciate the thread more than you know.

I think Scott (the article author) could darn well be a professional reviewer, though.  I ask him about games I know he's playing before I go anywhere else.

And for the record no, we don't make any money whatsoever off of reviews.  The only time I've had any dialogue with Brad is when I sent him a bug I found in GalCiv2 years ago and he replied.  There you go.

Thanks for the semi-professional comment more than anything, that feels awesome to know people are actually looking.
