Dear stardock. Y U NO DEMO!

Hey guys,

I have not been around much recently but here I am.  I heard about the original Elemental and was very sad for you guys.  Of course I have loved the majority of the games.  Anyway since I am being overly cautious I would like to try FE before I buy it but sadly there is no demo.  Same with the original Elemental now that I heard it got fixed, but again no demo.  Can I get some help here?

A demo would be nice, but they were under the wire getting this finished up to snuff. Although there is no demo I recommend the game they have right now. Possibly in the future they will provide a demo, but I'll tell you this, a buy now will not leave you dissappointed.

If you want to know about the game I am sad to say I cannot find a demo, but I can recommend looking through a "Lets Play" for the game.

(Not sure if there is any up-to-date though). I would make you a video of a playthrough but my computer can only run a really poor resolution while also capturing the screen.

I have not been to "Lets Play".  I forgot about that site.  If someone want's to do one that would be cool.  I pre-ordered X-Com and think the game has great potential.  I don't like have my squad wiped by a bug on ironman mode though.  Due to that I am being slightly more cautious.  I realize I can't make Stardock produce a demo but I am curious why not.  I don't think it would be too hard to just hard code in a turn limit or something but of course I know nothing.

Do a youtube search...

Edit: wrong vid btw. will look for a proper one. (Edit 2: Updated with a beta 4 version) (Edit 3: Can't find anything from beta 5, so beta 4 is the most recent, bash the players :D)

Found this after 2 searches, right now we are in beta 5 and playing version 0.992 to help you search.

You will see these kind of bugs in ANY newly released game, this is the days we are living in.

Which is sad.

...then again, MoM even had bugs in it upon release...however that was probably more because of memory issues with it's limited 16-bit enviroment.

Yes, a lot of things have been changed for the better, but the most basic of mechanics are similar to WoM in terms of its a world in anarchy and filled with monsters, you start out very weak and will have to contend with and survive powerful beasts until you have build your kingdom/empire powerful enough to deal with them and then possibly challenge a rival kingdom/empire.  You can probably get WoM on teh cheap somewhere.

Sorry for mentioning X-Com, I don't wish to derail my own topic.  As it stands I will bounce around youtube and see what I can see.  It seems WoM is only available here unless I missed it somewhere.  Was it released as a boxed game?

Edit:  Answered my own question, and I did just find it cheap.  I imagine box vs download, no difference?

Edited my earlier post with a "Beta 4" lets play from fallen enchantress, slightly old.

Anymore, I only do download.  I've had to move so many times, I've lost several discs over the years, and a few  years ago I had a rash of DVD drive failures anyway, plus I hate how slow it takes to read from a disc, and hate even more having to dig through my bachelor pad of a room to find a CD to play a game I've already installed, heh.

Thank you, watching it now.  Still hoping for FB to tell me they have a demo in the works.

Well I bought the original and used it as a demo of sorts.  Well worth it considering the super cheap price if you get a boxed copy *couamazongh*.

No, it was really pretty bad.  Simtex knew how to design a great game, but they tinkered with it endlessly, and kept trying to fit more in.  There were lots of rules problems, and the AI was truly terrible upon release.  Several crashes, too.  But it was such a well-designed game, and they worked to get the AI better after release.  The final official release still has a number of things that don't work properly--you can check out the Insecticide bug fix to see just how much was done--but it was quite a bit better.

We're planning to do a demo, but the team needs a break first :)

Well the original was enough to convince me to buy the second... well that and the fact you guys are good people.  It is sucking away my weekend as we speak.  I still recommend a demo though and am glad you are making one.  They are usually what sway me towards purchase if I am sitting the fence on a game.

I imagine that was the case.  All the time and effort was spent on the last days to get the thing ready to ship.

Thank you for that. It's all I really wanted to know. ^.^
