Hopeful, but concerned...

Hi,

So I was really excited to see the new Elemental game was almost ready for release as I have been really excited about the possibilities of this game since a year before the original Elemental game was released.

But coming to the forum to see what's new, it looks like the whole forum seems to be completely over-run with bug reports which kind of scares me this close to release.

Is this game truly READY for release?

Yes, a lot of the bugs are minor graphic errors and grammatical errors.  There are still a few crashes here and there, but it really is a stable game.  We are just very diligent in reporting even the slightest problem, so when it does launch, it will be near perfect.

The reason why so 'many' bugs are being reported on these forums is due to the absolute flexibility that the game can provide in regards to what is considered a 'bug'. I'd argue that many 'options' are being posted. Stardock has been burning through these reports almost as fast as beta testers are cranking them out...

Despite possibly lacking several features (though that too is a matter of opinion) FE will be ready for release as it is a very stable platform that has excellant playability, strategy, and enjoyment.

Most of the bugs begin reported are not actually bugs, but cosmetic errors. So technically the game is running, but is it perfect no. I'd say it has less errors than the x-com game that just recently came out and that was a solid game.

Almost every bug I've seen is someone saying the game "needs" a feature and lists it as a bug.  Imagine if Civilization V's beta had been run through Civfanatics.

The bugs I've seen are either cosmetic or more commonly are subjective requests that they're listing as bugs.

The game was ready for release weeks ago. What I downloaded last night I'd consider the 1.01 version for most games I buy these days. I don't know if that's a compliment of Stardock or a sad commentary on the state of PC gaming.

The bugs are important but minor relative to the gameplay. There's no bug that stops you from experiencing the game, imho (at least I haven't seen one reported for 0.991).

This is also the part of the beta cycle where all the bugs and balance issues are intensively worked upon.  Concept, feature set, UI: these are past.

I applaud your question, Soulfire777 -- Glad you asked.  I can see why you might wonder, given the volume of discussion on bugs, just now.

BUT, to add my voice to the previous folks, the Game is ready for release (by any reasonable, or current, standard for the industry).  And it will be that much better, by October 23rd.  Just to review the bidding, the game is feature rich, challenging, and FUN to play.  Many of the bugs are no more than cosmetic; several are really "feature" or "balance" or "subjective opinion" issues, that really don't deserve to be called bugs; and the flurry of activity right now is a "timing" phenomenon (it's that time in the cycle).  A few real bugs remain, but they are dropping fast; and none of them are what I would even remotely consider "game-breakers".

Why are we apologizing for the industry?  Why don't we ask Brad to use this opportunity to raise the bar?  How awesome would it be for reviews to say something like this "for the first time in a long time, we see a game virtually bug-free with great attention to every detail on the first day of release... 5 stars!"

By industry standards, the game was probably ready for release with Beta 5. But I think given the disaster that WOM was, it makes sense that they were anal retentive this time.

I've been one of the biggest complainers of the .99 builds, but the game is really close to ready.  I think you don't need to be worried.

Industry standards SUCK.

Windows 8 CLEARLY proves that most companies just do what they want...especially the big ones with clout.

Yep ^_^ Hate to agree with it though :S
I am happy to see some more polishing from stardocks side than from what I have seen with other games, I might just see positively to FE
(This statement only considers FE)

Sometimes I upload pictures of nummy treats and post them as bugs. It gives the devs a nice little reward.

Agree, the importance for the last declared bugs seems to have little impact for a good experience and fun the with general gameplay.

I find the game ready to release, and these last days for polishing will make it bright even more.

And they're less filling, too.

This game is good to go. We focus on the negative in the extreme, cause we want every little detail to be perfect.
