[Suggestion] Random Events: we want more, but some of them could be friendly, and other just a bit unfriendly

I have not seen a random event in all the games I've played (about 20 untill now), even with the "more often" option.

I don't plan in having a random event each 10 turns, but maybe a minor event each 20-30 turns (for saying a number) could add some flavour...

So I will suggest some events (many of them taken from other games, of course...nobody is perfect).

- A visit of a trader with some special items...you will still need money for buying them...maybe the visit can stay for some turns...

- City events: A city can get improvements or troubles for X turns

Growth (baby boom), Production, food (good harvesting), research boosts

The same but the opposite: Growth (a disease) or even some deaths, Production (a failure that makes delay), food (bad harvesting), or research troubles

These events should not be too rare. That would make heroes with Path of Governor a excuse to go to that city to lower the bad effects...

- Heroes: well...I'm no sure of this but heroes could get modifications in their stats also good or bad, because of accidents, diseases, a special training, or whaever idea you have, to modify a bit (+/- 1 or  2 points) to HP, dodge, attack, etc... nothing important, but a little of flavour.

- Units:

Same than heroes: random modifications of their stats.

Options of recruiting a rare unit (trolls, krills, or whatever you think) or not rare (guardkeepers, knights,...)

- Global Events. A lot of stuff here too.

Same events that in the cities, but global...that would be rare...but possible

Boost or Lowered mana income from a type of shards (for example x1.5 or x 0.5), like a planet alignement, or changes in the flowing of energies, whatever excuse

Essence suddenly Flowing in a tile...

Falling of a meteorite...Yeah, why not? It could affect 1 or more tiles...

Please, feel free to add more

I'm disappointed with how few random events their are. Not just with the number, but also the frequency. Even set to the highest setting, I have only received 2 random events in 500 seasons.

I figured I would have been getting 1 every 50 seasons.

Yeah,  I'm still waiting for a random event to appear... my games don't last so much, but I remember Frogboy told the chance of a determined random event (I can't remember wich one) was 1/18.000  each turn... that would mean you need to play 36 games (of your 500 seasons each one) to see it...

Instead of rare, strange and apocalyptical events, what about more simple and frequent ones?

The random events I've seen so far are childish (to be nice) and don't seem to fit in the deep, dark fantasy game world the devs are apparently trying to create with the Elemental brand.

I mean, rescue a Kitty???  Come on!

Maybe Stardock is just toying with us in the beta?

I'm still hoping for events that alter terrain.

Ah, random events... I'm getting flashbacks from my Dominions III days. I always played with misfortune 3, and dreaded clicking on the special event line in the turn log.

One thing I'll try to have done for day one release is some event based quest content. It will be short and simple, but add some nice variety to games. Make sure everyone points out to new users that content mods are great for beginners too!

Kitty is pretty badass so I would be careful ;)

Indeed ! -- "Kitty" is the best Random Event I have seen; of the three I have seen, in approximately 100 hours of playing.  I loved getting  Kitty, as a Mage's "Familiar" (non-human companion) in a recent game I played.  Much better than some mangy old wolf, or fragile puppy dog ...

I  DO  think the Original Poster makes a good point; that more random events, including several that are  not  too extreme, would make for an improvement to the game.

Idk if events could be attached to quests, but that would be great.

The events that modify terrain could be fun too... like DsRaider said:

- Nature events: like Changes in the weather, storms, typhoons,  Volcanos, earthquakes, ... could be or not animated, it doesn't mind...

The point is... it can give each game more feeling of a random, living world

For now, I think I will feel lucky when I finally see a random event...

Thank you for the suggestion. In fact, yesterday I was looking at your Stormworld Mod wiki, and thinking in trying it once the final game is launched and tested.

I take the opportunity to give you a suggestion for if you find it interesting to add to your Mod: introducing Leveled Lairs :)

It's not something I would put in Stormworld, too much of a game-changer.
