Bugs and Suggestions

I am not sure if these are actually bugs, but they sure make game play odd.  I wrote a post about a game I was playing as a custom sovereign based on Lady Irane.  I said she was her twin sister Lady Arina.  I created medium map game on normal difficulty.  I finally finished the game and met my twin sister.  However, the random sovereigns that were selected was not Lady Irane, it was my custom sovereign Lady Arina running the Altar Faction.  So instead of my twin, I got to fight my clone.  So I have a list of couple things I noticed at the end of the game.

Bugs

1.  The random sovereigns should not use the one that you are using.  Especially if it is a custom sovereign.

2.  Spell Stacking, the custom sovereign had two spells stacked.  The first one was Death Ward.  She had it stacked four or five times.  I could kill her and she just kept on walking.  I would eventually run out of actions and she would march into a city and take it over even though I killed her four or five times.

3.  The second spell that was stacked was the reason she would kill anything.  She had Evade stacked anywhere from 8 to 10 times.  My level 35 champion couldn't hit her.  None of my hereos or trained units could ever hit her.  The only thing I could do to kill her was hit her with a lightning bolt.  She could walk into a city with one hit point, and unless my sovereign was there that city was conquered, no one could hit her.

4.  I killed everything in the Asag and it never cleared so it could be settled.  The big monster wandered out once.  I think that has something to do with this bug.  Whenever they wander out of the wildland, I can never clear it.

Suggestions for balancing and gaming.

5.  Outpost resources.  I usually play a medium map, but any larger map people have to be losing their mind clicking through all the resources to find out if they can be upgraded.  That is a rather large pain in the ass.  Right now I go to the cloth map and I click on each resource to see if it can be upgraded.  Is there a better way.  Can upgrades to resources in an outpost be put in the build queue for cities they are tied to?  If they are in the city limits then they are in the queue, but not if the resource is out of the walls or in the ZOC of an outpost.

6.  Archers--I think there needs to be a limit on their armor.  It does not make any sense for archers to be wandering around in plate mail armor.  This goes for trained units and champions.  Based on the weapon and armor, certain combinations should not be compatible.  Maybe add crossbows that allow for better armor, do more damage, but have a cool down period.

7.  Same for magic users.  For some reason it just feels wrong to use a sovereign mage that is wandering around in champion armor.  Is it safe to cast storm and thunderstrike in chain mail armor?

Agree on everything except nr 6 and 7.

While it would be nice with some "Limitation" for armour for archers, I think the fault lies in the powerhouse that the current armour is, and the next to no penalty wearing it, I think it should be fully acceptable to have armoured archers, as long as you can live with archers having 8 initiative instead of 14.

Same goes with mages, I like the idea of choice, but currently there is no point not equipping full armour suits to every single unit.
The problem, and the solutions to fix this lies in the design of the game itself.

If you ask me, (My opinion) there is no viable build where you go all out mage, you have to wear armour and bring a proper melee weapon (Short Sword comes to mind). because there is no mage combat, you will never have mana enough for a fire mage to be only fire mage without a weapon.

The mage staffs (The ranged attack staffs with elemental damage) are useless to equip to heroes, especially mages since they slow you down, and gives nothing that a good proper melee weapon could not deliver.

Thanks for posting these  , I do not object to anything just giving comments to awaken thoughts.

For me, 6 and 7 are already house rules.  I don't think it makes sense for archers to where plate mail.  It isn't funtional in my mind.  Somethimes I will let them get chain mail armor.  Depends on the game.  Archers are already so powerful, that leather armor nerfs them just a bit.

And usually by late game I am doing pretty good on mana, so I have played a pure mage.  Sometimes I will let them where leather but I usually stick to the robes with them.

For me it is a way to make them "realistic".  Champions are too powerful in my opinion, so I will only let them get armor by what type of warrior they are.  Governors, might get leather as well.

1: Are we playing the same game? O_o

2: Well I usually have lots of mana, but also have tons of things to use them on, I usually never go for fire actually due to the mana penalties, I would rather save mana for enchantments (Tireless March and Evade springs to mind instantly) destiny's gift and the power of melee heroes.
