What on earth do you mean ?

Sorry "pedestrians", little animated people on constructs.

I don't quite understand what you are getting at, but there is a setting in the options, under display

I no longer have this option, or the animated "pedestrians" in game.  Changing the setting in xml does not appear to do anything either.

If your files got messed up reinstalling might help. Could you post a screenshot of your menu that has this option missing?

I have reinstalled, and tried the LocalData switch.

I have exactly the same problem, no pedestrians showing, and no option to switch them on.

Bugged that already some time ago in [.952 BUG] Pedestrians .. quo vadis?

Missed your post, apologies.

I'm wondering if they were switched off in 0.952 to help with memory management... pretty sure they were there in 0.951.

They are disabled on 32bit systems to save memory.  We should have greyed out the option and had the mouseover say that, rather than just hiding the option.  Pedestrians take up over 200 meg of memory and we didn't want to risk 32bit people being unable to finish their games because of memory issues.

As one of those 32 bit windows people for the last 2 years I can definitely attest to the memory issues and the ungodly amount of crash reports. With that said, I upgraded to 64 bit Win 7 about 2 weeks ago and it feels like a different game to me, so much better. The performance difference between 32 bit Vista and 64 bit Win 7 is like night and day. Short story - I highly recommend those who can upgrade the get 64 bit Win 7.

Processor word size is not a good determinant of a machine's capabilities, my 32-bit laptop is much more powerful than my 64-bit one.  Changing the default setting or decreasing the number of pedestrians is understandable, but I see no reason not to leave the choice up to the user.  Omitting them entirely actually feels somewhat wrong, and removes quite a bit of fun factor from the gameplay experience: the world seems to be in an eternal cataclysm.

It is a good indication of the maximum amount of memory the application is allowed to access.
