Stardock Account Registration fails me for Rebellion

Hi all,

I've already sent an email to support, but other than the autoreply, haven't heard back.  While waiting, I was wondering if anyone else had the Stardock Account Registration verifier hang/do nothing, thus sticking me with some free time to kill?  For kicks, I even hit the "Reset password" option, but it just says it could not contact server (at least that option indicated it was trying to do something).

Google searching showed a few older posts with the same type of issue, apparently solved by disabling antivirus.

I tried the process with antivirus and firewalls off, same thing.

Tried verifying game cache in Steam...no problems.

Since I don't expect to hear back from support today (its now 5pm PDT), any other thoughts?

Specs:

i7 2600k @3.4 ghz    16gb Ram   580gtx nvidia video(301.42drivers)  win 7 64 bit Home (updated this week)  1.5 TB HDD Cable internet (working fine for everything else)    Antivirus/firewall enabled/then disabled

Thx,

Groovy

Well, off to bed...here's hoping for some Sinning tomorrow.

I am going to record things here for the possible future google searches that may look for help with similar issues.  All prior forum/posts with similar issues never posted anything regarding a resolution, so I'm not sure if any of them were ever solved.  Hail future people, I shall post for your future reference.

Unfortunately, another day of Sins abstinence.  Got a prompt morning reply from support, but couldn't try fix till home from work.  Provided a new SDActivate.exe file amongst a few others, but that only led to a "could not run SDActivate.exe, try running as admin" error.   Doing so, including checking the Run as Admin box under Privileges made no difference.  Tried setting UAC settings to minimum, also without effect.  Will wait to hear back from support.

Ahh, after trying many things, success.

By running the Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion Dev Application as admin from the steamapps/common/sins of a solar empire rebellion folder directly, it allowed me to open the registration and have it actually work.  The error seemed to imply i should run SDActivate as admin, but that was a red herring.

Signing off...hope this helps you future theoretical people.

Same as you Groovy, tried your admin suggestion fix but still didnt work for me. Registration popup still hangs.

*UPDATE 11/9/12* I did find a fix browsing The Steam Support forum's and Rebellion now works fine.

Heres the response to help anyone with the same issue:

Exit out of Steam.
- Click Start -> Run (or Windows Key + R)
- Type inetcpl.cpl and click OK.
- Click the Connections tab.
- Click the LAN settings button.

(Note: You may want to write down the settings currently found in this window if you need to undo these steps later.)

-If any items on this window are checked, uncheck them.

Click OK to close any open windows and restart your computer. (nb: I didnt need to restart for it to work)

Now re-launch Steam and test it.

It seems I only needed to uncheck them just for the registration process, so I went back and checked those settings(just incase my ISP needs them checked to function properly) after the registration was successful and the game still loads correctly.

Hope it helps others.
