Slowness, would like more from the start...

help me please

I must say, I liked Elemental:  War of Magic.  Yes, there were problems, but I remember having a lot of fun when it first came out.  As each patch came, it seemed to make the game much less "fun" and much more of a chore to play.

I got the Beta for Fallen Enchantress a few months ago when it came out, tried it, and decided to wait a bit to play.

I reinstalled it last night.  I LOVE the art of this game, I think there have been massive improvements in the user interface, structure, presentation, and a whole bunch of other things (and remember, I liked the first rendition of the game).

Here is where my problem comes in now.  IT IS TOO SLOW!!!  Even on fast pacing, almost nothing can get done early (haven't gotten any farther in a game yet).  I would love this game if:

1)  movement were doubled

2)  research was cut by 50%

4)  training was cut by 50%

Someone helped me double movement way back in Elemental WOM, so I have that part.  Is there a way to cut research and training times by 50%?  Money, well, I guess it can be cut, but more than anything it is very BORING clicking end turn several times while waiting for construction.

I could even understand that, except that I am playing on FAST.  There needs to be an option for faster and fastest if this is the state fast will stay in (and that was meant seriously, not as a joke).  There could also be slower and super-slow for those that want that, but I want to love this game so much, but it flat-out needs to be FASTER, especially with a "fast" setting.  Right now, the fast setting is slow, and that seems rather counter-intuitive to me.

Also, the one other major thing to me:

Can I please have a setting so that the squares are squares not diamonds.  I do not want a diagonal board, I want a straight one.  It always starts diagonally.  I hate it.  I change the main map (1st thing I do, every time...EVERY BLOODY TIME) and it stays, but on the battle map it starts as diagonal EVERY time (and I have to change it, EVERY TIME).

Two things, and if anyone has any ideas on how to mod it/change it through editing (if we can do that) I would love to know:

1)  Double speed of things

2)  Change map facing from diagonal to straight and KEEP IT.

HELLP!!!

please...

Easy. In the options menu there is a checkbox in the middle column called (I believe, but don't quote me on the exact name) 'snap rotation' or something similar. Uncheck this and you can rotate the map as much as you want and it remains. I turn the camera so it faces flat north, myself.

I like the pace now, so radical changes in pace is not needed, and would make your early decissions less valuable. Better add a super fast mode for those not blessed with any patience..... ;)

I meant a permanent change, so I don't have to re-align each and every time.

It is not a matter of patience, it is a matter of boredom.  If a setting is marked as "fast", then it should be fast.  17 turns to get one building in the very beginning of the game is not fast.

I certainly don't want to interfere with anyone else's enjoyment, though, so I would be fine editing speed of things in the *.xml files, but I have no idea of what TO edit.  So either more options, including a speed that is faster than "fast" (which is not a fast pace at all, it is just less slow than the other 2) or knowledge of what to edit to make research cost less, and training/building to take less time.  I'll do it myself, I just need to know what to edit to make it work.  (and my theory would be to cut everything in half, thereby doubling the speed of the game...it starts out incredibly slow and boring).

I'm pretty sure Fast only affect technologies. As in, it makes research times faster or slower. Isn't that why it's called Tech pacing?

It isn't? I tend to be absorbed in the first 20-30 turns exploring and defeating monsters. Then since my first building is usually production oriented I create the rest much quicker. Really, if there was a problem with the early game pacing, I'd say that it was a lack of variety when it comes to what you can do, not a lack of activity. Are you reducing your tax rate to Low or None? The lower unrest helps with Production and Research times.
