Casting Pillar of Flame twice in one season?

I finally started using my strastegic map spells, as I had been in a nasty habit of not thinking about them at opportune moments.

So this time when an umberdroth came waltzing into my territory, I remembered.  So I casted freeze, the pillar of flame.  Then...another pillar of flame in the same season?

Hmmmm.....he was 5 squares away from my city (which could not have defended against a full umberdroth), so I simply cast two pillar of flames each season and killed it before it got to me.

Is this intended?  Seems a little OP, though I will say it cost a crudload of mana, so maybe it is ok, balanced by mana cost, but I wanted others feedback on this.

Did you have two champions able to cast it?

This is actually a tactic I wish the AI was better at using against the human player. In all the games I've played so far, I can't recall any time the AI employing a "May only be cast in your territory" type spell against one of my invading armies.

I like the current system. To me, it's part of the benefit of building up a mana horde and playing a tower defense strategy while you go after one of the victory conditions other than total opponent annihilation.

Though it might be helpful to clarify in each spell's description how frequently it actually can be used, like: once per caster per season, once per caster and then not again until the effect is dispelled, infinite use until mana is exhausted, etc.

Oooh, that's it!  I DO have two champions able to cast it!  Hah, thanks for that, now I understand!

Yes, ok, I am good with the system, too, because it is champion driven, and yes, actually, I agree if the AI would use it too, then it would be balanced just because they could crush you the same as you do them.
