Star Wars Forces of Corruption: Frustrating Problem...

The game itself is terrible. With mods enabled it is a totally different story. A good compliment to any SW nerd or space game lover in general (Like me!)

That said...

Plain and simple, no matter what mod I play, the game freezes eventually, forcing me to do a Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get out of it. I've got Windows 7, Steam, and used to have a physical copy, and I easily meet the minimum requirements, and in fact, the Auto-Detect settings put me on maximum!

Mods that give me this problem:

z3r0x FoC Addon

Absolute Corruption Mod

Republic at War

Thrawn's Revenge

Alliance Mod

*Epic Picard Facepalm*

Way to ruin the only mods I play...

Why does it do that? Why the **** does it do that? I know there's a random crash bug with the vanilla game, but my game doesn't crash. It freezes. No Exception or anything like that. It is frustrating, and I would ideally like to know how to stop it from doing that! Then I maybe could conquer the Prime Galaxy once and for all!

But until then... I weep, in sorrow, for the hours I have wasted trying to play such great mods for such a terrible game...

Oh, btw, it does this with regular EaW, too. I need help with that, as well.

OH GOD I NEED HELP!!!

Mods don't work very well with Steam. I don't have EaW/FoC on Steam, but have heard of the problems. It has to do with the way the files are arranged, the Steam version is the Gold Pack, and the file structure is different than the original releases of the games. Try this YouTube video.

I know how to install mods on Steam. I've seen that video before. This is... something else to do with them.

I don't know what to tell you.

It is a well know issue...

In fact, before the total freeze, it can first happen that you cannot select hardpoint on a ennemy ship, that you cannot select one of your unit, that you cannot move a newly build ship or troop...

Think is that with mod, a lot more thing happen in game... once you reach some ingame limit related how much thing was builld/kill, problem begin to arise...

some have call it the "300 bug" because it somehow begin to happen after the turn 300... but with mod, it happen more early...

There is nothing who can be done... it is a problem who have always exist and that mod enhance due to the material added...

This kind of nonsense is one the reasons why I don't use Steam, because the original release of EaW/FoC don't have such problems.

My original release had the same problems. That's why I switched to the Steam version...

Did you originally have the Gold Pack? If so, then I may have to give up on playing EaW/FoC when my disks give out, because they just aren't worth it without mods.

Have nothing to do with Steam or not... it is internal to the game...

Well, there is some other reason for freeze... if you have apply the last patch ( 1.05 ), new bugs was introduce to the game.... by example, if you destroy a planet wit hthe death star when Solo and Chewi are on the planet, the game freeze too... bug who have not exist before the 1.05 patch...

It is a big problem with games who in most case are rushed for release and have poor short term support...

I don't like Steam but use it because there is no real alternative... same if i don't like Steam, it is too much easy to put the fault on Steam without evidence... modders team have people with various version and as similar problem appear with any version, it show that steam is not responsible ( in this case )...

That's what I was afraid of...

Figures there would be some ridiculous gimmick with the Gold Pack, most collections don't have such problems.

Yes. Gold Pack.

The original individual CD releases of EaW/FoC, which I have, never had this problem to my knowledge.

Gold pack doesn't have any problems for mods. At least I never had a problem using gold pack with mods.

maybe but they have other problem... i speak of the game with the last update ( 1.05 )... The OP speak about game + mod... when a mod remain alive, it evolve with the patching version... usually, patch solve more problems that creating new ones...

I play 3 of the mod listed in the OP and i know similar problem... with a play without mod, problem appear very very rarely... Simply, the intern limit are not high enough for big mod... somehow, it was the case with sins too in the past but Stardock are not like any other game business, they somehow listen... hardcoded limit for mesh/texture was doubled on request of modders... in fact, since 2008, a lot of thing requested by modders was added to the game...

No kidding, EaW/FoC are pretty pathetic without mods, the unit selection was small, and and the engine is rather limited, with mods like Phoenix Rising are pushing the engine to its limits.

I have the original discs and have had the same problem. It has nothing to do with Steam.

Just play the old Star Wars supremacy instead. The interface is horrible, but everything else is much better than EAW/FC
