Problems progressing in the WoM campaign...

Hi,

To get a feel for the pacing in WoM, I decided to start out with the single-player campaign, and I found I couldn't progress beyond the Allies for Altar segment. I greeted all four factions - Pariden declined to supply troops, but I'm not worried as I can easily produce far superior troops myself - and now the campaign has stalled.

I can't head East, that wierd gate blocks expansion to that juicy Fire shard... I have no idea what to do to trigger progress. This is the first time in the campaign I've been without any direction (although the inability to check active quests is aggravating).

Any ideas what to do next? If I have to abandon the campaign because it is broken, I'm not going to be happy...

I have used two methods to beat the campaign, the first on 1.01/2 which was to build a town next to the gate and when  your zone passes the gate teleport over, the second is to grab the ships and sail back to gilden, get more ships and troops from them, then sail around past pariden to the shore east of the gate, land the troops from the ships and move a unit onto the fireshard then the gate will open then bring all of your troops south down the passage and kill ALL the enemy there including the dragon (I think it is called dragonol)

hope this helps

Landing troops is impossible in the current version of the game. If you move your units onto the water where a boat is, then the boat will just leave them behind. (Unless I need an army space for the boat? That could work...) As for teleporting over, that would be nice, but I don't know if I have that spell in my spellbook. How would one go about teleporting?

EDIT: Looks like I *did* need a space for the boat. Tch. Okay, thanks, that was the prod I needed. I just hope I can get across now. :)

the boats can only be loaded at beaches, but you only need 1 or 2 units to open the gate.

and I have not done the campaign since 1.03, so do not know the issues in 1.04 if any?

Open the gate...? That would be wonderful, but how do you open it?

Never mind - it's triggered by 'controlling the Fire Shard' on the other side of the gate. Oddly, building a shrine isn't enough to count as 'controlling' it - you have to approach from a beach landing to open the gate - but I was easily able to complete the campaign from here.

...Huh, I was expecting a more formidable boss. Though I suppose anything would have fell before my impractically-expensive army. :)

back in the 1.01/1.02 I was able to open it by walking a unit onto the shard after teleporting over the gate, so it is not just from the beach, but the occupation of the shard by a unit that opens the obsidian gate for the rest of you huge armies to swarm down and kill the boss
