V 1.4 and what it did to my game

Okay, this update has totally screwed up my game.

 

1. Some buildings no longer build and are "stuck" in the building tab, not being built (EDIT) Now when buildings are completed it does not show them period, so that I have spent resources for nothing

 

2. My unit costs are now all messed up, and some units are only allowed to train on experianced not normal (or stuck on group setting)

 

3.  All units minus Peasant, Pioneer, and Caravan WILL NOT train at all (and the costs and such are STILL WRONG)

(EDIT) I figured out I can design units all I want but it will STILL only allow me to train peasants,and pioneers, no longer can I even make caravans.

4. (EDIT) Now ALL THE TIME my units AND cities DO NOT gain experience OR level up in any way.

 

(EDIT) 6. Now more than HALF of the GOODIE HUTS, QUEST LOCATIONS, AND OTHER NOTABLE LOCATIONS, do NOT trigger when walked upon by ANY HERO UNITS

 

So might I ask WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???? Is there a way to fix this?????? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME

Sgt_Harris did you upgrade from an old version of the game? There are some issues when that happens. If you upgraded from 1.1 or anything before, you should uninstall by removing your entire folder and downloading the game again from impulse.

I updated from 1.3, and had the same issue. So the first time I DID uninstall and reinstall using Impulse....then nothing, it is still happening (Plus doing that made me lose my custom character and Faction which sucked)

 

Any other ideas?

 

(EDIT) Forgot to say I also have the Relic of Agrlynn (Sp?) download or whatever it is from Wal Mart buying it so yeah

EDIT Uninstalled even that and it didn't change a thing

 

 

 

So in conclusion I am most puzzled, lost and angry here. Aid please?

Shift-rightclick elemental in impulse, select verify installation. Have it run its course - if it says you need to update the game once its done, then update the game.

That's my last idea.

Edit: One more idea, actually. Open your installation directory and put the Data/English/ folder in a zip, and upload it here. I might have another idea, but its difficult to explain and this is faster.

I wanted to check that the folder structure was right, there was a bug with that which has caused a ton of people to report errors when using my mods. I didn't see anything odd in yours. Sorry, that was my last idea.

No ideas, just the same problem you seem to be having.  Did the "verify" bit and it said things were ok.  All I get is the little shield up where you can click on either Play or Manual.  Neither one does anything!

I think I wll try the Uninstall, Re-install next.

FIXED!  At least that did it for me, a re-install via Impulse and now the game runs.  When I reinstalled it went all the way to version 1.40.

See I did that too, and I STILL have ALL of the listed problems (I have done the uninstall reinstall and verify thing 4 times now) SO yeah, still frustrated as HELL

Just had an idea, perhaps it is the Wal-Mart exclusive download content that is screwing my game up (Relic of Argynn) I am gonna try removing it and see if the game works right, I'll post my results here later.

When you uninstalled it last, did you make sure to also wipe out all the directories for it? That's really all I can think of that would cause this.

There's an Elemental directory in My Documents, IIRC under My Games. There's also the stuff in c:\program files (or c:\program files (x86) in a 64 bit windows), and again IIRC some stuff in a hidden directory called c:\ProgramData that Impulse uses.

 

I don't have WoM installed right now though, so someone who does should check on that. :)

Yes, there is an Elemental directory under My Documents\My Games of the user you installed it under.

Then there is the main program directory, which by default installs in "C:\Program Files" (or "C:\Program Files (x86)" in a 64 bit Windows).

And a directory in C:\ProgramData (mine is still C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic" because I haven't reinstalled Impulse since Gamestop took it over, I guess the directory would be "C:\ProgramData\Gamestop\Elemental - War of Magic" for Impulse installs since Gamestop took ownership).

These are all the directories Elemental uses I think.

Wiped out all the data minus the stuff int he program files (since the uninstall did that) I am going to try this one last time before I just give up on this game for good....wish me luck.

Well that was it...I give up. I did everything you guys suggested...and all of the glitches are still present. Looks like this damned update really did permanently fuck up my copy of the game.

I'm sorry to hear that.  And yes, there's nothing more you can do for WoM, you just must have been one of the unlucky ones whose update really mucked something up.  But just to make sure, it might be good to check hard disk integrity and all that jazz, just in case something happened there.  Give Elemental a break for a while, if you still want to in future you can try FE, otherwise all the best with all your gaming. =)

When did you buy WoM? If it was in 2010 you should be in the free FE group.

They're just trying to be friendly. E:wom isn't a bad game, but FE appears to be looking a lot better (also it will give you cancer). From one player to another, if you're getting FE for free, it may be worth just waiting for it.
