v1.2 has gone gold

Next week release

I've spent the last couple of days trying to wreck WOM v1.2.  Each time there's been an RC, I take a shot at destroying it -- and have succeeded in doing so. Hence why we're in April and still monkeying with v1.2.

I won't go through all the new features and changes in v1.2 over v1.11 but here are the things I think people will notice very quickly:

1. Framerate is substantially faster.

2. End turn performance is substantially faster.

3. Memory use has been drastically reduced.

Once v1.2 is out the door, we move onto the v1.3 track which is almost purely a feature upgrade to the game.

When is 1.2 coming out? Will the 1.3 beta begin right after that? What else has been added to 1.3 (it's been quite on that front)?

Frogboy, I am curious as to your wrecking technique.  Do you have a list that you run down?

Forgive me i'm naive on the "Gone Gold" term. Does this mean 1.2 is feature locked or its about to be released? (or something else?)

My guess for one method, building a ton of units, have the AI do the same, set them on auto-explore and hitting the end turn button really fast until the game screams to stop.

Traditionally "Gone Gold" meant that the product has been finalized and was ready to be sent to the factory for manufacture (Burning Disks, packaging etc.) I assume that Frogboy is talking about the equivalent state in this digital distribution era (put in the publishing pipeline).

So if were are lucky, we may have the patch Tomorrow/Early next week?

Awesome! I've been waiting for this patch since 1.1 (didn't use betas). I can't wait to see the difference.

Awesome, I will have to decide to make my new bitching thread for 1.2 or wait until 1.3...

I just want the 1.3 betas right now, I want to see what you've been up to, and I'm ready for some new toys to play with.

What's "an RC"? A release candidate?

K-radical, btw (just wanted to use a different word than awesome). :digichet:

Yeah that's what RC stands for AlLan, "release candidate"

So 'gone gold' means it should be out anytime now?

Well, if it's "gone gold" it's being readied for release.  24 hours at most, unless Stardock are still enjoying their morning irish coffees.

It's going to be released next week (the op shows that as a sub-header).   SD and Friday releases usually don't happen... they like not having to work over the weekend if there is some unforeseen issue.

All the work you've done on WOM performance and stability will surely benefit FE too !?!?! So this new game will be stable and awesome at launch !?!

Completely missed that.  Thanks.

any idea what day this week?

Was also wondering, is Gamestop being in charge of impulse going to increase the time a finished update takes to get to us from you guys (now or in the future)?

Second that. "This week" rings of Bernakesque ambiguity ;)

Wed/Thurs is fairly typical from what I've seen in the past for releases.

Good question.  I know that the folks at impulse have to load/stage updates (eg if I'm a developer and create a patch, that patch just doesn't automatically become available.  Someone has to load it on the impulse side).  So, it makes sense that they might have less control over how quickly an update rolls out... but that said, as all of the folks from impulse are moving over to work on impulse under the gamestop umbrella - its quite probable that there wouldn't be much of a change in how long it takes for SD to get SD updates hosted.

They said in one of the Elementa Dev Journals they will still be able to bypass the normal process others have to go through.

Good stuff!  I'm sure they worked out a few "perks" with the sale of impulse.

The main stardock page reports that 1.2 is available now.
