[MOD] Axeldude's Additional Planets Mod (Last update: 01/16/2012)

http://axeldude3.wordpress.com/

PLEASE VISIT MY NEW THREAD

Hey guys,

So I've been getting into making planet textures for sins (on the normal planet model, not the optimized one). Since I don't know alot about modding, like adding them on new planets, changing atmosphere color, etc.. I'll leave them here for anyone who likes them.

I'll be uploading some more if any of you guys are interested, also, tell me what you think, currently only have 2 textures "ready"

As I said I only made some textures, if you know how to mod planets I'm sure you can change to aura/atmosphere to a more fitting to the texture :)

So a short sumary:

The textures use the normal mesh.
Best to use with other planet glows/atmospheres.
No DA.
Free to use in any mod, just credit me if you like.

Crap... why is everyone so good at this?  Nice job.  One day I will master the texturing technologies!

Nice job! I have no idea how to do the standard planet mesh.

Thanks! Working on a desert/lush planet with a kinda rocky surface, should be ready the next few days (i hope) :D

if you guys have any other requests i'll try and make 'em :D

Deleted because I lost this texture :(

Nice, I like how the jungle around the equator slowly receding to rocky slopes.

Hmmm, I'd love to use that green planet texture in the Halo mod if you don't have any objections, Axel.

Check first page for the downloads :D

EDIT (10/30/2011):

I've lost all my previous work due to computer failure and I didn't have much time to complete any other textures but I've made some new ones in the meanwhile (2 Gas Giant Textures) and also some kind of icy rock planet.

Currently working on some other textures, actually editing existing ones to make them look better ingame. I don't know if I need permission to edit them, if so can someone point me out to the person I need to ask? The textures are from the Distant Stars mod (Military Planet, Jungle/Savana Planet/Oceanic Planet).

Those planets, plus a couple more, were originally from the Sins plus mod. The author is no longer around and has given permission for his stuff to be used in other mods. I would assume this includes editting, just make it clear that he was the original creator somewhere. Can't wait to see how they look, a few of those planets did look a little unpolished.

Edit: Also I would love to use the rocky ice planet at least in my mod, so I would appreciate it if you could put up an upload sometime. :)

Edit2: Do you remember the texture names for the planets you lost? I may have downloaded them and still have them in the abyss of my computer... somewhere. ;)

Those planets are from Sins Plus which he made public a while ago. Just credit Uzi & the Sins Plus team.

Nice job! I have no idea how to do the standard planet mesh.

Huh, That's easy. Standard sphere, size the value of the bounding radius in the mesh file. I made mine subdivided by 25 which is not as much as Sins planets but I wanted optimized. 2 UVs, 1 flat for texture and another spherical for the clouds.

It's been a while. I would have to check all this again to be 100%.

I've done the Oceanic textures, they look more water like imo, 2 variants, the one is slightly darker/more blue than the other one.

Very nice.  k1

I don't suppose you want to do the icon and window set? Here is a sample of the template I have made.

 [WIP] Sins Plus Planets

City Forest Grass

Industrial Military Ocean

Paradise Relic Rock

Toxic Grave

icons_planets_sp.xcf  Gimp project file
icons_planets_sp.tga

Wow, that one actually looks like a blue marble.

I don't think its a huge deal for the updated Sins plus planets, the old icons should work just fine.

We wouldn't mind using them as they are a revamp of what we use anyway.

I baked the Sins Plus planets to a 2x1 texture sheet. Cut the texture size down quite a bit.

You still around Axel? These planet really do look awesome, I hope you come back to finish them or at least give a download link.

release for community would be awesome, I love em!

Okay I got my new system up and running and I'm ready to do some more textures. While taking backups (pretty retarded but hey..) I forgot to copy the Ice, Rocky planet texture, but I've made a new one and in my opinion it looks better!

Also, for the sake of not losing textures anymore (ooooh boy..) I've made a copy to my other computer AND my laptop!

Anyway, here's 2 shots of the new Ice-Rock texture, and I'll be soon releasing some in a .zip file:

EDIT: Added 2 shots of a terran planet i'm working on, tell me what you think, I'm missing something.. don't know what tho..

Ice rock planet looks awesome.  What you're missing from the terran planet in my opinion is the polar caps (maybe, maybe not), the dryer vegetation around the equator, high elevations (I think I see a few individual mountains, but no full on mountain ranges, snow capped peaks), and deserts.  The current terran planets have a wide variety of environments that are represented, its possible it looks off because this one doesn't.  As it is, if I were to guess at it, I'd say swamp planet before terran.

Was thinking about adding a bit more different colors (brownish) to the textures, i'll try to add some mountain ranges, but I still have to find a good way to do that. Also, I'll try adding some ice caps. And if that works out, could make 2 versions of this one, one with icecaps etc, and one as is, maybe less rivers, like you said a swamp/forest/grass like planet.

EDIT:

Changed the texture a bit, more green lakes and less reflectiveness, and it now looks like a jungle/swamp like planet. I think I'm gonna leave it this way, and edit the blue one a bit to make it look more like a terran planet.

Also: added another screenshot of a dark brown/reddish Carbon planet texture. It has no special features..

God damn, son.  We outta use you to help make a new Sins Plus pack. :-0

And celestial bodies.

Liking the carbon planet texture. One minor complaint I had with Sins Plus is that is focused on hospitable worlds to much. Granted it had a toxic and rocky planet, put considering most planets are quite desolate I think it could use more worlds like that or Mars.

I was working on some rock planet textures, all greyish, blueish, and I was attempting to make some various desert textures but that'll be for later this week.

I'm looking into maybe some ethane soaked planet (purpleish "oceans", dark green/grey land),
a red rocky planet due to iron oxide dust covering the the surface and various boiling-rock planets (rocky planets with high temps, various colors)
and maybe Hot Jupiter textures (Bright yellow, maybe will emit some light too, not as bright as the Star ofc.), these are gas planets that orbit very close to their star and have an unstable orbit.
I was also thinking maybe Ice age planets.. I'll have to look into that too :D

If you guys have any more ideas, feel free to post them, I'll look into it if I can make 'em.

I'll be releasing some of my textures later this week or next week, remember I haven't made any icons for these textures. If someone wants to make them, that would be cool! They should be compatible (icon-wise) with Distant Stars and Stars (these have smaller icons).

I'll keep you guys posted! :D
