Sins Novels ?

Hi all,

I was wondering, since I saw that Elemental is getting it's novel and all...

Is there any plan for Sins ? The story is already really cool and a novel would be made easily I think with what we have.

I would love to see a novel about this universe !

I remember seeing some fan fiction posts on here about a year or so back.  I haven't seen any official books.

Hmm seems like Ironclad should keep its promise on having an "in depth storyline" by bringing it to life in a book.  I know I would buy it and it would be a great way to renew interest and sales in the game.

@OP- no, there isn't an official novel for Sins. For the forseeable future, I rather doubt that there will be. That said, there are some excellent fanfics on the forums.

Perhaps they will release a short story with Rebellion. I too would buy a Sins novel, and it would be a great way to either renew interest in old-timers, or generate interest in possible new buyers. Either way, Ironclad would get some tangible revenue from people buying Sins books.

I am currently reading Tony Gonzales EVE: Empyrean Age novel and I am finding it excellent apart from any sort of EVE connection.  Gonzales did an excellent job of bringing to life the political machinations and military maneuverings of the four races of that game.

As I read it, though, I kept thinking that there is no reason why Sins could not be used as the foundation for an equally dark and serious bit of space opera.  Sins has all the necessary ingredients:  interesting races (perhaps even more interesting than anything found in EvE), great fleets, diplomacy (as found in Diplomacy ) and soon a rebellion.  Yup...Sins could make for an excellent novel in its own right!

Who knows?  Maybe the author of that book will be found right here in the community.

Lets get Brad and Random House on this, pronto. :)

The Empyrean Age novel starts great. The first scene with the Broker is particularly memorable despite violating the most basic of Eve lore. It kinda coasts downhill for most of the rest of the book... but just dives off a cliff towards the end. There are a lot of plot holes, a lot is never explained or wrapped up, and... well, the ending is just plain bad. Second book manages to be worse.

I would definitely buy a Sins novel.

I still can't find Blizzard's Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft Archives.

The Stacraft books were okay, I enjoyed them, though not what I had hoped !!!

But I think that Sins would have a better basis and a more interesting plot than any universe I know.

There would be plenty to say about the Advents only by themselves, the begining and their rise...

Same for Vasari with the begining, the apogee and the fall...

The story of TEC would be about chasing the advent and banning them, period of peace and then the discovery of 2 new races never seen before and how they started to deal with them...

Lots of other subjects would be about the war itself and how it forced to the lead to entranchment and in the end, the only solution would be diplomacy.

Story continues, Rebellion, people among their own races are sick of dealing diplomatically with other races, sick of everything it implies, sick of sharing their ressources with them so it leads to a secret group of rebel, growing and growing, and in the end being strong enough to be on their own and fight for their own ideal ! The rebellion would happen more or less at the same time for the 3 races since there would be a first one rebelling and rising and the 2 other races people would just follow example...

Meanwhile, other stories could introduce pirates, how the races use them, try to manipulate them, how they could rise etc.

Story goes beyond game (and plan for another expansion or sins 2), everybody is fighting their own little war and trying to get the advantage over the other but basically, it's going nowhere and everybody stays on the same level... But a threat arise forcing them to ally themselves against it... Introduction of new race coming from unknown part of the galaxy (if an extention was to made about it, it would imply a lot)

Or the idea of the new race could be replaced by: all races are on the same level but the universe is collapsing and stars are strangely dying forcing them to find solutions quickly to "heal" their sun... Many don't and just perish, other succeed to escape... Apocalyptic scenario ending in races working together and being at peace because they saw what fighting together would mean for the survival of their race... or they would, until... TADAAAM *dramatic music* -black screen- TO BE CONTINUED....

Well, all those ideas are pretty basics but would make a great plot if explored deeper with the world of Sins.

I definitely want to see the existing maps visualized into a living, tangible galaxy.

Souls_Stream, the second half of what you said was terrible. Plain and simple. Neither of my 8 year old daughters would fall for that.

I too would buy a Sins book, providing it is actually readable and not just the same stuff repeated over and over in diffrent words.

And I think you don't see further than the tip of your nose ! :cylon:

First part of what I said wasn't worst because you can take simple basic ideas and make an awesome story out of it ! And that's what most poeple do anyway, you take a basic idea, simple then it becomes good and interesting because you expand it, you make interesting characters, expand the plot, makes more to it than what it is... You have to see over all that.

Take Foundation, the basic story is not that original and turns rather weird if you tell it like it is... Now when you read it, it is still amazing because there's more to it... And that's what I meant.

Those are just ideas anyway... There's more to it but it could lead to something like that eventually !

I don't think it's worse because after Rebellion if the devs create a new expension or a Sins 2, that's probably what will happen ! Change to the universe and/or add new races :P

Threre could be other ideas, but seriously, I don't see anything else that could happen right now in a space universe unless they make more planetary events.

And to repeat myself, there's a lot of amazingly good novels who have as simple ideas such as "the story of a murder" which is the stupidest idea ever but it can get really interesting depending on how expanded it is, you see?

When I stated "suns dying" it could be provoked by anything, they would just not know what in the begining.

The new race well, could be anything ! Depends !

If you have ideas tell me what you would like to see in a novel about Sins that would expand the game.

I so hope that's not what happens. Seen that cliche too many times and it's almost always horridly done. The one time I thought it was well executed was in Command and Conquer 3 where everybody hated it and they started nuking eachother by the end of the first mission.

Kitkun, I didn't think you were the Command and Conquer type. I always thought of you as... "fox"-y.

She's going to kill me, isn't she?

Well, to divert your attention, how about THIS?!

It was a joke. "Fox"-y? Get it? No? /facepalm. Argh. Young people these days. Have no sense of humor...

Well, it was worth the effort. Gave me a good laugh at least.

My signature below actually applies to how I feel on the inside right now...

Kitkun might be "young", but she's not that much younger than you are.

Hey, when she gets to be my age, she'll see things diffrently. 7 years is quite a difference. In MY opinion. Same goes for you. You're worse, in fact. You have no sense of humor at all. You could probably watch 6 consecutive hours of The Three Stooges and not even a chuckle. Kitkun, along with people with a limited sense of humor would probably get a laugh or two at them, but YOU? Here's a question: Have you ever laughed in your life? It seems like everytime I see you comment on something, you're always in either a foul mood, flaming someone, or in a totally non-fun attitude.

Like my great aunt always said, "Young people are crazy!"

I still feel exactly like my signature, on the inside.

Could you possibly point me in the direction of some of those quality fanfics? I love the Sins universe and factions and I'd love to read a good story involving them.

I just realized--two of the authorized writers for the Star Trek books are neighbors of mine and I know one of the book writers for Star Wars.  If Ironclad ever wants novelists to take it on--call me.

Hint: they will not do it for free.

What we really need is a Sins graphic comic series!

This one started it all, Witchfire shared a universe that inspired others to create lore about the game we play. Here is another one, DS lore is based on the mod which myself and others post and continue to this day. Also, here's the Fan Submission forum where you can find others who posted stories in the past......Bison.....

I laugh plenty. I actually rather enjoy the Three Stooges, but generally I have a somewhat serious attitude because I'm either being objective about something (vs debating, say), or I'm criticizing something.

OTOH........

Well, the writers of C&C are among the worse ever ! It gets so bad that you laugh at it !

And in Red Alert they want it so it's really really bad ! At the same time they hired Tim Curry for Red Alert... That guy is really funny but he never did anything great... ever... lol

C&C could get a really interesting story if only the writers they hired were better

Years ago I read a Sci-Fi novel about Orcs and science-fictions stuff (not fantasy) and the story was really amazing while the original plot was worse than C&C... I can't remember the name though... I've been searching for that book but without success... oh well ! I read it and it was great !
