Post for Frogboy (AKA Brad)

Brad,

I noticed that the "Elemental just isn't fun thread" was locked.  I was wondering why it was locked.

You seemed to take exception to Mx's post about patches not making Elemental fun despite us having heard this kind of claim since beta.

I'm curious as to why.

For the record, I support Mx's point.  We have been hearing that Elemental will be fun and yet it still isn't.

Your comment that perhaps Elemental isn't the game for Mx made me wonder why you would state this given that many issues still remain in EOW that are killjoy.

It's almost like you saying: Perhaps you should find a different game to play if you aren't having fun.

I personally feel like I paid for EOW and want to play that game, but its still broken, buggy and not fun.  Having said that, it is much better now than it was on release.  Still, there isn't much of a game manual and so forth and so on.  So it's fair to ask when will it become fun, although I do realize that is an opinion.  Still, there are people in the community that feel the way I do.  It feels dead and many reasons why we feel this way were posted.

I started the thread mainly to ask for some kind of tutorial and larger manual with the v1.2/v1.3 patch because of these factors, hoping that maybe I could understand the game better and that once I did perhaps gameplay would improve and become fun.  There is a lot going on under the hood and I may not be understanding how it effects gameplay.  Not understanding a deep game can ruin it, especially if there isn't much of a story/campaign to guide you along.

I am, respectfully, trying to understand.

Put simply, War of Magic is in pretty close to its final form. If you don't enjoy it, it's probably not the game for you. This is pretty straightforward. I personally think War of Magic is plenty fun at this point. It's not the best 4x game ever, but it's still a good product, and it's every bit as fun as a lot of other 4x games. You might be happier with Fallen Enchantress when that comes out, and depending on when you bought War of Magic, you probably get it for free. I'd wait for that if you don't enjoy Elemental now.

A lot of it is because it's beating a dead horse.  There have been hundreds of these threads.

Hopefully FE is good so these threads stop.

Then it might be fun when patch 1.2 comes out, or patch 1.3, etc, but if you're going to condemn ALL the patches right from the start simply because one hasn't hit your sweet spot yet, then maybe you should find another game. Maybe return at a later date and see if it's finally to your liking. You're certainly not helping by sticking around and pointing out how each patch that comes out hasn't hit the fun factor yet. You're almost saying, "Give up devs, you'll never please me," with each post.

And you thought the best way to approach the manual issue was to start a disheartening thread such as "The game isn't fun"? I know the devs have upset you but you're not helping matters by trying to make a trip to the forums as gloomy as possible for them. They'll either start ignoring the forums like many other developers or simply toss aside the project to work on another that hopefully will please the customers. The latter being an act I'm sick and tired of seeing in the industry.

There is a lot going on under the hood and I may not be understanding how it effects gameplay.  Not understanding a deep game can ruin it, especially if there isn't much of a story/campaign to guide you along.

Why couldn't you PM him rather than turn this into a public scrutiny?

Whats it matter? There now where near the claims on the side of the box and its months and months after release. Now there all like oooohh wooow look at fallen enchantress. Which hopefully will work.

IMO EWOM will never work, but FE will be very good, but that's just a guess, so why not just give the guy a break and let him work? :)

I'm sorry you feel this way.  I think it's time for you to move on then and find a game that suits your needs better.
